Southern Business School Admission Requirements: 2024/2025

The Southern Business School (SBS) admission requirements for 2024-2025 for all the courses at the certificate and diploma level are updated every year.

Therefore, this article contains the full list of all the diploma and other courses, along with their general requirements.

For admission into programmes of study at the Southern Business School (SBS) for any first degree or second degree, an applicant must have the following requirements for successful admission:.

SOUTHERN BUSINESS SCHOOL (SBS) ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

Doctor of Management
  • an appropriate Master’s degree with an average mark of 65%;
  • a minimum of five (5) years work experience in a managerial capacity;
  • an initial research proposal (1 page)

In addition, applicants need to consider the doctoral application, admission, and examination process, which distinguishes between four phases in a student’s doctoral journey, namely:

  • pre-candidature (the application, selection and admission process);
  • candidature (supervisor appointment, attending workshops and colloquia, exam preparation symposium);
  • examination; and
  • graduation phases
Master of Management
  • a STADIO, formerly Southern Business School BBA Honours degree; or
  • a relevant postgraduate diploma; or
  • a Bachelor of Arts degree in a cognate field.

with

  • with an average mark of 65% for Option 1: Research-Based and 55% for Option 2: Coursework applications (Intensive exposure to the various disciplines of management of at least five subjects is required);

In addition, applicants need to:

  • Have minimum of four (4) years work experience in a managerial capacity;
  • Be proficient in English.
  • Be computer-literate.
  • Have access to the internet, and
  • I have conducted academic research before.

Should an applicant apply with a postgraduate diploma on NQF level 8 (minimum 120 credits) qualification, please note he or she must also have a B-degree.

Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours)
  • a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree; or
  • a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree; or
  • another approved Bachelor degree in the field of Business, Commerce and Management Sciences; or
  • a bachelor’s degree that includes at least five (5) modules in business, commerce, and management sciences; and, at a minimum, economics, financial management, or public sector financial management at the first-year level.
Bachelor of Business Administration
  • a Senior Certificate (SC) with degree endorsement; or
  • a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a minimum of 50% in four 20-credit subjects and a minimum of 40% in English Home Language or First Additional Language; or
  • a National Senior Certificate—Vocational Level 4 (NC(V)) with a minimum of 50% in three fundamental subjects, including English; and minimum 60% in four vocational subjects; or
  • a STADIO, formerly Southern Business School Certificate; or
  • a STADIO, formerly Southern Business School Higher Certificate in Management; or
  • a STADIO, formerly Southern Business School Higher Certificate in Paralegal Studies; or
  • a STADIO, formerly Southern Business School Diploma in Management; or
  • a relevant N6 National Diploma
Advanced Diploma in Management
  • a STADIO, formerly Southern Business School Diploma in Management (NQF 6); or
  • a prior qualification on NQF level 6 (minimum 360 credits); or
  • a diploma (NQF 6) or degree (NQF 7) in a cognate field.
Diploma in Management
  • a Senior Certificate (SC); or
  • a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a minimum of 40% in four recognised 20-credit modules, including English Home Language or First Additional Language; or
  • a National Senior Certificate—Vocational Level 4 (NC(V)) with a minimum of 50% in three fundamental subjects, including English; and a minimum of 60% in three vocational subjects; or
  • a STADIO, formerly Southern Business School Certificate or Higher Certificate in Management on NQF Level 5; or
  • a Higher Certificate (NQF 5) in a cognate field

Higher Certificate in Management
  • a Senior Certificate (SC); or
  • a National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by Umalusi; or
  • a National Senior Certificate—Vocational Level 4 (NC(V)); or
  • an NQF 4 National Certificate.

with

  • a minimum of 40% in English as a Home Language or First Additional Language.
Doctor of Policing
  • an appropriate Master’s degree with an average mark of 65%;
  • a minimum of five (5) years work experience in a managerial capacity
  • an initial research proposal (1 page)

In addition, applicants need to consider the doctoral application, admission, and examination process, which distinguishes between four phases in a student’s doctoral journey, namely:

Master of Policing Practice
  • A STADIO formerly SBS Bachelor of Policing Practice Honours degree; or
  • Intensive exposure to the various disciplines of management (at least 5 subjects) is required
  • An equivalent qualification

with

  • a STADIO, formerly Southern Business School Bachelor of Policing Practices degree (NQF 7); or
  • another approved (NQF 7) degree.
Bachelor of Policing Practice
  • a Senior Certificate (SC) with degree endorsement; or
  • a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a minimum of 50% in four 20-credit subjects and a minimum of 40% in English Home Language or First Additional Language; or
  • a National Senior Certificate—Vocational Level 4 (NC(V)) with a minimum of 50% in three fundamental subjects, including English; and minimum 60% in four vocational subjects; or
  • a relevant N6 National Diploma; or
  • an NQF Level 5 Basic Training Certificate (SAPS).
  • a relevant NQF level 5 qualification.

Diploma in Policing
  • a Senior Certificate (SC); or
  • a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a minimum of 40% in four 20-credit modules, including English Home Language or First Additional Language; or
  • a National Senior Certificate—Vocational Level 4 (NC(V)) with a minimum of 50% in three fundamental subjects, including English; and a minimum of 60% in three vocational subjects; or
  • a Higher Certificate (NQF 5) or Advanced Certificate (NQF 6) in a cognate field; or
  • the STADIO, formerly Southern Business School Higher Certificate in Management (NQF 5)
Bachelor of Laws
  • A STADIO formerly Southern Business School Bachelor of Commerce in Law (NQF 7); or
  • an accredited bachelor degree in the field of law (NQF 7).

In the event of an applicant not complying with the minimum admission requirements as stated above, he or she must complete the bridging modules (listed in the course curriculum) prior to commencing with the qualification.

Bachelor of Commerce in Law
  • a Senior Certificate (SC) with degree endorsement; or
  • a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a minimum of 50% in four 20-credit subjects and a minimum of 40% in English Home Language or First Additional Language; or
  • a National Senior Certificate—Vocational Level 4 (NC(V)) with a minimum of 50% in three fundamental subjects, including English; and minimum 60% in four vocational subjects; or
  • a STADIO, formerly Southern Business School Certificate; or
  • a STADIO, formerly Southern Business School Higher Certificate in Management; or
  • a STADIO, formerly Southern Business School Higher Certificate in Paralegal Studies; or
  • a STADIO, formerly Southern Business School Diploma in Management; or
  • a relevant N6 National Diploma
Higher Certificate in Paralegal Studies
  • a Senior Certificate (SC); or
  • a National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by Umalusi; or
  • a National Senior Certificate—Vocational Level 4 (NC(V)); or
  • an NQF 4 National Certificate

with

  • a minimum of 40% in English, home language, or first additional language, where relevant.
