How To Apply NSSF Online in Kenya

In Kenya, every individual is entitled to social security. The National Social Security Fund was established basically to provide financial security to Kenyans upon retirement. Just like universal social health insurance (NHIF), it is mandatory for those in formal employment and voluntary for self-employed persons.

To have access to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), you need to apply for it. This can either be done offline or online. In this article, we will be looking at mainly the online application process. However, let’s take a look at the requirements.

NSSF Required Documents

Before you can apply for  NSSF, you need to have the following documents handy:

  • Your original National Identity Card (ID Card), Alien Card or Passport and a copy of it.
  • Copy of Kenya Revenue authority PIN.
  • An introduction letter from your employer.
  • Employers NSSF number.

NSSF Online Application Process

The online process of application process involves three stages; the pre-registration, Certification and Activation step. One of these processes would require one to visit the NSSF office.

Pre-registration

  • Visit the NSSF Self Service portal
  • Locate the NSSF member self-service links and click on the “Member Registration.” This will direct you to the registration page.
  • Complete the form displayed accurately.
  • Print the registration information (application notification) and contact the nearest NSSF office for certification.

Certification

  • Visit any NSSF Office and present the application notification for certification. This process will require you to pay a minimum amount of Ksh 200. This is an initial contribution to activate your NSSF card.
  • Attach copies of the above mentioned required documents for submission.
  • Once your details have been successfully verified, you will then be issued with a Pin-Key and membership card from the NSSF office.

Member Activation

  • Using the Pin Key from the NSSF office, visit the NSSF Self Service Click member activation menu on the NSSF homepage.
  • Login in with your username, password and the pin key.
  • Click activate to complete member registration.
