We are pleased to announce that the Strathmore University iLabAfrica Research Scholarship for 2025 is now open.
The Research Scholar Programme at @iLabAfrica, Strathmore University, provides an excellent opportunity for young graduates to enhance their research skills through practical experience and training in research and development. In addition, scholars may qualify for a scholarship to pursue one of the Master of Science degrees offered at @iLabAfrica.
Strathmore University iLabAfrica Research Scholarship Eligibility and Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Holders of, or awaiting graduation with, a First Class or Upper Second Class Honours degree in:
- Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or IT-related disciplines from recognised universities.

Holders of other related qualifications from recognised universities, considered equivalent to a First Class or Upper Second Class degree in Computer Science or IT.

Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrate interpersonal and human relation skills.

Ability to:
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Work as part of a team.
- Perform tasks assigned diligently and confidently.
What the Scholars Will Gain
- Industry Experience: Scholars will work (8:30 am – 5:30 pm) in one of the units under @iLabAfrica, gaining hands-on industry experience.
- Full Scholarship: Awarded a full scholarship for a Master of Science degree (evening classes, 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm) in one of the following disciplines:
- MSc. Information Systems Security
- MSc. Data Science
- Stipend: A monthly stipend of Ksh. 15,000.
- Meal Allowance: Meal allowance at the University cafeteria.
- Research Support:
- Assigned a research supervisor.
- Practical training in scientific research and relevant software.
- Training on writing research proposals and grant applications.
- Exposure to tech hubs and international conferences.
- Career Opportunities: Opportunity to enter paid employment with the University upon successful submission of research proposals attracting adequate funding or engagement in a funded program.
- Further Opportunities: Upon successful completion of the MSc program, the scholar may be offered a teaching or research position at the University or the possibility of continuing studies to PhD level.
What Scholars Are Expected to Do
- Attend evening classes for the MSc program and maintain a pass grade.
- Submit all required projects, CATs, and assignments for the MSc program.
- Publish research based on coursework in the MSc program.
- Carry out research work, prepare funding proposals, and perform other tasks directed by the research supervisor.
If the funding request is successful, scholars may receive a salary based on the research budget or the project budget if they are engaged in one of @iLabAfrica’s funded projects.
- Perform clerical duties as required.
