These awards, destined to facilitate the academic journey of diligent students, open doors to a variety of study fields essential for safeguarding our planet’s precious resources and nurturing sustainable development.

DFFE FULL-TIME BUSARIES ELIGIBILITY

Who Can Apply?

  • South African citizens, with priority given to individuals from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Applicants must either be full-time students at an institution of higher learning, incoming college freshmen, or current Grade 12 students.
  • Applicants who are already employed are not eligible.

Financial Need

  • The maximum bursary amount allocated is R50,000.00.

Academic Requirements

  • Possession of a Grade 12 certificate (Matric) is mandatory.

Fields of Study

Engage in a myriad of fields (especially in the Agricultural sector), including but not limited to environmental management, forestry, conservation biology, marine biology, civil and environmental engineering, law with a focus on the environment, geography, oceanography, and various post-graduate studies related to the environment and resources.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

A complete application dossier should contain the following:

  • A letter of motivation, making a case for your selection
  • Certified copies of qualifications and recent academic transcripts
  • Certified IDs of the applicant and their parents or guardians
  • Proof of enrollment from a higher education institution (if applicable)
  • Current Grade 12 results for those in high school
  • Documents indicating parents or guardian’s income
  • In the case of deceased parents, provide proof.
  • For unemployed parents, an affidavit is required.

    • Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, Environment House, 473 Steve Biko Street, Cnr Steve Biko and Soutpansberg Road, Arcadia, Pretoria.
  • Cape Town Office:
    • Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, 63 Strand Street, 13th Floor Nedbank Building, Cape Town.

APPLICATION DATE

  • Deadline for Application Submission: October 27, 2023.
  • For those awaiting results, the department will communicate exclusively with successful applicants by the end of January 2024.

Upon the bursary award, beneficiaries are mandated to participate in the public service internship program after completing their studies, as stipulated in the bursary contract. Prior participants in this internship program are ineligible for this bursary.
