How to Apply for DSAC Heritage Bursary for 2023/2024

The application for the Heritage Bursary for the academic year 2024/2024 is now open by Department of Sport, Arts and Culture for all South Africans in South Africa.  

Scholarship

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture hereby invites all outstanding students to apply for the 2023/2024 Bursary.  The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) Bursary is a great opportunity for South Africans to pursue their studies in heritage-related fields. The bursary is available for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The main objective of the DSAC bursary is to create change, encourage excellence, and build better lives for South Africans by the delivery of Sports, Arts and Culture. It also aims to financially contribute to students of language studies in order to help develop much needed language skills within the South African context.

DSAC HERITAGE BURSARY APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY 

The eligible courses are: 

  • Anthropology (exclusively with a focus on forensic / medical anthropology)
  • Archaeology (exclusively with a focus on marine and underwater cultural heritage, and forensic)
  • Archives and Records management
  • Conservation of the built environment including preventive conservation
  • Collections (cultural & natural) management (Not Nature Conservation)
  • Palaeontology
  • Museum Studies or Management and Curatorship
  • IKS or Courses that contribute to the preservation and promotion of Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) and S.A. Living Heritage
  • Marketing of heritage
  • Digital heritage

Candidate Requirements 

  • South African citizenship
  • Letter of provisional acceptance / letter of admission from the institution;
  • Not older than forty (40) years;
  • Outstanding / satisfactory academic performance (academic progress report if already at an institution) or (Grade 12 if you are a 1st year student);
  • Field of study (heritage related)
  • Not employed full time by government, state agencies or private sector with a salary of more than R130 000.
  • Students who are beneficiaries of other bursaries or donors for the 2024 academic year will not be considered.

HOW TO APPLY FOR HERITAGE BURSARY 

Interested institutions are asked to collate applications from their various faculties or departments and submit them on behalf of their students by February 28, 2023.

Application forms (DOWNLOAD HERE) must be submitted to the following email address: 

Kindly attach the following documents: 

  • Your certified ID document. 
  • Your final Grade 11 results, stamped by your school or, if you have completed Grade 12, a certified copy of your Grade 12 certificate. 
  • A CV with all the relevant information. 

CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS 

  • Completed applications need to be submitted on or before February 28, 2023. Late applications will not be considered.
