Sanlam Retail Affluent (SRA), a business dedicated to empowering South Africans in the middle- and upper-income segments to achieve financial confidence, security, and prosperity, is offering bursaries to scholars who have enrolled to study Actuarial Science in 2024 and current students in their 1st/2nd/3rd year of Actuarial Science studies. As part of their commitment to the trade, SRA recognizes the importance of providing support to future actuaries in order to ensure their success in the field.

SANLAM ACTUARIAL BURSARIES/ACTUARIAL FUNDING ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for the Sanlam Actuarial Bursaries/Actuarial Funding, applicants must fall under one of the following categories:

  1. Undergraduate Studies: Current full-time Actuarial Science students (SA citizens and non-SA citizens) who are in their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of studies, and demonstrate academic ability and a will to succeed.
  2. School Leaving Learners: Those who intend to study Actuarial Science in 2024, excel at maths, enjoy solving difficult problems, and are willing to remain focused and disciplined throughout their years of studying and training.

SANLAM ACTUARIAL BURSARIES/ACTUARIAL FUNDING APPLICATION PROCEDURE

To apply for the Sanlam Actuarial Bursaries/Actuarial Funding, applicants must submit an online application and attach the following documentation:

Undergraduate Studies:

  • Full academic transcripts
  • Proof of registration and/or fee statement
  • Copy of matric certificate
  • Copy of ID/Passport or valid study visa
  • Comprehensive CV focusing on academics, extra-mural activities, and leadership skills
  • A motivation letter addressing the questions specified in the original article

School Leaving Learners:

  • Final 2022 Grade 11 results
  • Grade 12 mid-year 2023 results
  • NBT results (Final grade 12 results may be used as a determining factor)
  • An above 90% score in Mathematics and an overall A aggregate
  • Comprehensive CV focusing on academics, extra-mural activities, and leadership skills
  • A motivation letter addressing the questions specified in the original article

Please note that applications must be completed online, and no applications will be accepted via email or after the closing date. Preference will be given to suitably qualified candidates from the designated groups (Black South Africans i.e. African, Coloured, and Indian scholars) as well as non-SA citizens on merit. The closing date for applications is July 31, 2023.

Successful applicants will receive support for tuition and accommodation fees, a general allowance, mentoring and academic support from Sanlam actuarial professionals, vacation work and networking opportunities, guaranteed employment after completion of studies, continued support and payment towards actuarial board exams, and a range of work rotation opportunities across various disciplines.
