How to Apply for UWC Honours Student Bursary 2023/2024

The application for the University of the Western Cape (UWC) Faculty of Education Honours Student Bursary (Funding) for the year 2023/2024  is now open for all South African students in South Africa.

The Faculty of Education is pleased to announce a call for new applications for Honours student funding for the 2026 academic year. The applications are open to full-time and part-time South African and permanent residents who are financially needy (i.e., those whose combined household family income is less or equal to R350 000 per annum).

The UWC Honours Student Bursary programme assists by supporting financially deserving students with great academic potential to take their first steps in achieving their dreams and obtaining their first undergraduate degree. UWC Honours Student Bursary programme aims to fund academically deserving students who do not have the financial means to study full-time towards a first undergraduate degree or diploma at the UWC.

UWC FACULTY OF EDUCATION HONOURS STUDENT FUNDING APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY

Funding will be awarded for the 2025 academic only, for students in the following categories with respective criteria:

FIRST ENROLMENT HONOURS STUDENTS CRITERIA

  • Student’s first year of enrolment in the BEd Honours programme must be the 2026 academic year
  • Student cannot be a recipient of other sources of funding
  • Student cannot be employed in the UWC Work-Study programme, e.g. as a Student Assistant, Tutor or Teaching Assistant
  • Student with a combined household income of less or equal to R350 000 per annum
  • Successful applicants will be funded the full tuition costs.

SENIOR HONOURS STUDENTS CRITERIA

  • Student’s first year of enrolment in the Honours programme must be prior to the 2026 academic year
  • Student cannot be a recipient of other sources of funding
  • Student cannot be employed in the UWC Work-Study programme, e.g. as a Student Assistant, Tutor or Teaching Assistant
  • Student with a combined household income of less or equal to R350 000 per annum

Successful applicants will be fully or partially funded for the following:

  • Outstanding tuition fees

NB: ALL SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO SIGN AN AGREEMENT TO REGISTER FOR EVERY YEAR REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE DEGREE AS SPECIFIED BY THE FACULTY.

HOW TO APPLY FOR UWC FACULTY OF EDUCATION HONOURS STUDENT FUNDING 

Applications to be submitted to your respective departmental administrators:

Please submit the following documents:

  • Letter of motivation that explains your current financial status and reasons for your application
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Copies of your academic transcripts
  • Proof of registration
  • Certified copy of ID (not older than 3 months)
  • For proof of household income: Payslips (Monthly, weekly, fortnight), Wage slips, Employment letter (Indicating monthly/Annual Income), Employment Contract (Indicating monthly/annual Income), SASSA Letter (Indicating amount), Tax Income Documents, Affidavit (Indicating Amount)

Applicants must be in good academic standing.

Successful applicants will be required to also submit the following documents:

  • Proof of registration
  • Confirmation of banking details (not older than three months)

PLEASE NOTE: NO LATE OR INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED. ONLY SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL BE CONTACTED.

CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS

  • The closing date for the application is YET TO BE ANNOUNCED.
