This is information containing the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) Application & Registration Fees: 2024/2025. Authority of the institution has released the amount payable as application and registration fees for undergraduate, postgraduate, certificate, professional & diploma programs for the new academic session.

University of the Witwatersrand, WITS Academic Calendar 2023 Academic Sessions

This is to inform all the prospective candidates offered provisional admission or probably seeking admission into the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) for 2024/2025 academic session that the management of the institution has released the amount they are required to pay as fees for application form and registration (when given admission). We specifically publish this information here today, for all people who need to know the current Application as well as the registration fees of WITS. Please note that if you have applied for admission to the University of the Witwatersrand or if you are already a student, it is advised that you know the current registration fees for all students, and this knowledge will help you, avoiding making mistakes that will cost you your admission.

WITS APPLICATION AND REGISTRATION FEES FOR UNDERGRADUATE AND POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

WITS Application fees

  • Non-refundable application fee of R100 for South African citizens
  • Non-refundable application fee for foreign citizens of R700
  • Payments to be made before closing dates.
  • Use your T Number or Person Number as reference
  • All postgraduate applicants are required to pay an application fee of R200. Current University of the Witwatersrand students who apply online are not liable for this fee.

Note: This fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through the University of the Witwatersrand, WITS, do not qualify for admission to the University of the Witwatersrand, WITS or cannot be offered a space due to limited spaces available.

WITS Registration Fees

  • Please as at the time of the publication of this post, the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) do not charge any fee for registration.
  • Students are only required to make an initial payment towards the total cost of their tuition fees & student accommodation.
  • First Payment:
    • All self-funded students are required to make a first fee payment towards fees BEFORE registration. This is a standard amount of R9340 that is applicable to all South African students.  Students will not be able to register if this amount is not paid. Payments via EFT should be made 4 days in advance in order to clear before registration.
    • If you cannot make this payment by the time you register, you will be required to apply for a postponement to pay full fees by the end of April. Students can complete the postponement on the student self-service portal and proceed immediately with Online Registration
    • You can only apply for a postponement if you have been offered, and have accepted, a place in a programme.
    • The first fee payment is not applicable if you:
      • have been made a provisional offer for NSFAS funding for 2022;
      • have been given a full Wits University Scholarship;
      • fall within the funding threshold i.e. your family earnings are below R350 000 per annum. If you fall into this category, you will be required to request a postponement of the first fee payment via the self-service portal;
      • You can present proof to the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office that you have been awarded an external bursary or scholarship.
      • Are an international student.
  •  International students
    • must pay 75% of the annual tuition fee and other related costs, as well the on-campus accommodation fee on or before registration.

How to pay

Payments to the University can be made in the form of a bank draft issued in South African currency of “ZAR” and made payable to the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, or by electronic transfer into the following accounts:

Undergraduate

  • For the application fee: Standard Bank; Braamfontein branch; branch code: 004805; account number: 200 346 385. Swift code: SBZAZAJJ. Use your person number as the reference.
  • Pay by cash or credit card at the Wits Fees Office, Ground Floor, Solomon Mahlangu House (Senate House), Braamfontein Campus East, Jorissen Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, South Africa. Use your person/student number as a reference.
  • EFT – Use your T Number or person/student number as the reference.
  • For fees and the annual International Registration fee: Standard Bank; Braamfontein branch; branch code: 004805; account number: 002 891 697. Swift code: SBZAZAJJ. The person number must be used as the reference. Please fax proof of payment to 27 11 717 4918.
  • If you are in South Africa: cash payment can be made either at the Cashier Office at Wits University or at any Standard Bank branch; Braamfontein branch; branch code: 004805; account number: 002 891 697. If fees are transferred electronically please quote your person number as the reference.

Students will not be registered for programmes (degrees) if they do not pay 75% of the annual fees (tuition, international registration fee and on campus accommodation) prior to registration or have evidence of sponsorship. For more information call 27 11 717 1530

Postgraduate
