Applications for study at the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) for 2026 are fully online.

University of the Witwatersrand, WITS Postgraduate Application Procedures

• Use the WITS course finder to identify the programme entry for your chosen postgraduate qualification.
• Applications are handled centrally by the Student Enrolment Centre.
• Before applying, research and PhD applicants should contact the relevant faculty or school to discuss a research topic and the availability of a supervisor.
• Applicants are encouraged to apply online at the official WITS application portal.
• No more than two choices of degree and/or diploma are normally permitted.
• Please take note of closing dates, admission requirements, and general regulations for your programme.
• Certain programmes require additional departmental forms. These are normally available on the course finder entry page or from the relevant school or department. Please complete and submit these within the required timeframe. Incomplete applications may be declined.
• All required documentation must be uploaded through the official WITS self-service portal or application portal. The university may request duly certified hard copies of academic qualifications if your application is successful.
• Applicants asked to provide an academic transcript and degree certificate should upload these documents. Credit certificates or statements of results are not acceptable. Current students should upload final academic records once their final results are available.
• Once your application is complete with all requested documentation and the application fee has been paid, it is referred to the relevant school for assessment.
• Each application is considered individually. Decision timing varies by school, but most will make a final decision at the end of the admission cycle or early in the next academic year.

WITS APPLICATION FEE

• All postgraduate applicants are required to pay an application fee of R200, unless they are current WITS students applying online.
• How to pay: Log into the WITS self-service portal and click the Campus Finances tile. Select Make a Payment → Application fee.
• Alternatively, deposit the exact amount into the university’s application fee account:
