After getting admission into the institution of your choice, the next thing to do is to get funding for studies which is why the HELB is giving out loan through a seamless procedure. This procedure involves applying online on the HELB student portal but it is not just enough to apply. Considering the fact that application can be rejected when you don’t meet the HELB requirement, therefore after applying, it is necessary you track your loan application status either online or through SMS.
With Technology, life has been made easier and this has brought an increase in the level of online transactions in all works of life, the educational sector inclusive. Therefore, with the existence of HELB student portals, tracking of your loan status can be done with only a click of a button.
As a result of this, the management of the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has released a link where you can track your loan status for the 2021 academic session at anywhere and anytime.
After applying for the HELB loan, it is normal to receive a response from them a few days after the close of application. This is dependent on when you applied and how you applied. On extremely busy periods, close to closing dates, it will take some weeks. Oftentimes, hard copy applications take longer, as the application forms still need to be captured.
If eventually you don’t receive a response from the board after a certain period you do not have to panic. You can easily check your loan status on the HELB student portal through the few steps below.
HOW TO CHECK YOUR HELB LOAN STATUS
To check for your HELB loan disbursement follow these steps:
- Visit the HELB website
- Click on loan status. You will be directed to your HELB portal (You must have registered with HELB, if not click here to register)
- Click on disbursement a form indicating your loan disbursement status will appear
- Click on disbursement and a form indicating your loan disbursement status will appear.
You can also check your loan disbursement status through your bank account that you used during first time registration.
Students with HELB smart card can use it to check their loan disbursement status. Remember that the smart card has three parts, tuition, upkeep and general use. Amount in the tuition part cannot be withdrawn.
HELB loan disbursement status, repayment and Registration using SMS services/Mobile phone
A student can also access HELB loan services using Short message services, SMS. The following services can be obtained through SMS code:
- Loan Application and Disbursement status.
- Loan repayment status.
- Loan balance.
- Loan mini-statement
- HELB Compliance and Clearance Certificate Checker.
- Loan repayment and many more.
HOW TO CHECK FOR HELB LOAN APPLICATION AND DISBURSEMENT STATUS THROUGH USSD.
- Enter *642# into your dialer.
- Select option 1 for log in.
- Enter your PIN.
- Select 1 for Loan application and Disbursement.
- For Disbursement report select option 1 and select the academic year. Your loan disbursement report will be sent to your line via SMS.
HOW TO CHECK HELB LOAN REPAYMENT STATUS THROUGH THE USSD CODE
- Dial *642# and send.
- Select option 1 to log in.
- Enter your PIN.
- Select Option 2 for Loan Repayment.
- The following Loan Repayment interfaces are displayed.
- Loan status
- Loan balance
- Loan Mini-statement
- Repay loan
- Request information.
