North-West University (NWU) at Potchefstroom is now accepting applications for a prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Unit for Energy and Technology Systems (UETS). The Faculty of Engineering at the NWU Potchefstroom Campus invites qualified candidates to apply for a contract-based Postdoctoral Fellowship in Nuclear Engineering. This fellowship is embedded within the Unit for Energy and Technology Systems (UETS), contributing to groundbreaking research and development efforts in Nuclear Engineering.

Job Description

The selected candidate will join the Nuclear Engineering research group within UETS. This role demands a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher who is eager to conduct research in computational nuclear engineering analysis. The responsibilities include the compilation and use of open-source nuclear engineering codes, with necessary comparisons for verification and validation. The focus will be on the study of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) cores of the Light Water Reactor (LWR) and High-Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTR) types. The prospective fellow should be capable of planning and conducting research, documenting, and publishing the results in peer-reviewed literature.

Eligibility

Minimum Requirements

  • Applicants must have a relevant PhD degree obtained within the last five years before appointment as a postdoctoral fellow.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with neutronic, thermal-hydraulic, and fuel performance code coupling.
  • Proficiency in programming with C and Fortran.
  • Experience with running Nuclear Reactor Analysis computer codes on Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • A PhD in Nuclear Engineering or a related field.
  • A record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.

Remuneration

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised, in line with NWU policy guidelines.
