Follow the steps that are provided to make this process an easy and exciting process.
UNISA REGISTRATION GUIDELINES AND PORTAL
Before you begin: New first-time undergraduate applicants must first apply for admission at www.unisa.ac.za/apply. Applications are estimated to open in August 2025 and close in October 2025 — confirm exact dates on the official UNISA website. First-time undergraduate students are also required to complete the First-Year Experience MOOC as a prerequisite before registering. Returning students with an outstanding debt from a previous year must complete an Acknowledgement of Debt (AOD) application online via the myUnisa portal under myAdmin > Student Finance before they can register. Postgraduate (Master’s and Doctoral) students must have their research proposals approved and a confirmed supervisor before registering. Their registration window runs from 7 January 2026 to 30 April 2026.
Unisa online registration process is quick, simple and accurate. When registering online, you’ll be prompted when information is missing or incorrect, helping you to ensure that you include all the necessary information when submitting your registration form.
The steps are as follows
- Go to the Unisa registration website: https://registration.unisa.ac.za and select the walkthrough for your qualification type:
- Undergraduate Degrees & Diplomas: registration.unisa.ac.za/info/ureg/index.html
- Postgraduate Diploma / Honours: registration.unisa.ac.za/info/postreg/index.html
- Master’s & Doctoral: registration.unisa.ac.za/info/m-d/index.html
- Choose the qualification level and then click “Go“.
- Enter your 8-digit student number in the block provided and the other details as required. (If you don’t have a student number you won’t be able to continue. You’ll need to apply online for admission. During this process, a student number will be generated and communicated to you.) If you have forgotten your student number, use the retrieval tool on the myAdmin portal at myadmin.unisa.ac.za, which requires your surname, first names, date of birth, and ID or passport number.
- Check your personal details on screen. Change any contact details that are missing or incorrect. It is very important to provide your correct address and cellphone numbers, and to confirm that your myLife email address (studentnumber@mylife.unisa.ac.za) is correct. Incorrect information may delay the delivery of your study material and prevent you from receiving important information from the university.
- Click on the modules from the drop-down list for which you want to register. Ensure that you meet all the qualification requirements for your selected modules. You must
- meet all the pre-requisites and co-requisites for the selected module
- enter the correct module code
- select the correct semester (1 = first semester; 2 = second semester)
* The language of tuition for each module is indicated in the module information.
- Do not exceed the prescribed number of modules per semester or year, as this may result in a delay in your registration being processed. Unisa retains the right to remove modules based on the number of credits allowed per semester and in accordance with the fees paid. Please take note of the maximum period of time you have to complete your qualification.
- Calculate your fees
- Use the fee calculation page on the UNISA website: Calculate your study fees to obtain a quote for the cost of your modules.
- Note the minimum fee that must be paid before Unisa will process your registration. If these fees are more than you can afford, remove modules until you can afford the fees.
- You can make payment online, using a credit card at https://www.unisa.ac.za/feepayment.
- If you prefer banking methods, pay via EFT or at a bank branch. Full payment details are available at UNISA payment methods and banking details. When paying via EFT or bank deposit, use your 8-digit student number followed by a space and the correct allocation number as your payment reference (e.g. 12345678 5400374721 for study fees). Using an incorrect reference can cause significant delays in your payment being matched to your account.
- Retain your proof of payment in case of enquiries.
- Submit your registration.

Study pack delivery options
At the point of registration, you will have three delivery options to choose from for your first study pack for the semester, should you wish to receive study material:
1. Counter Collection
You can collect your physical study pack from designated UNISA regional offices and partner locations. Collection points include Sunnyside (main campus), Florida, Durban, Pietermaritzburg, East London, Port Elizabeth, Mthatha, Mafikeng, Parow, Polokwane, Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, Nelspruit, Middelburg, Giyani, Vaal, Rustenburg, and Richards Bay. This option is available to students near any of these locations.
2. Courier
Please provide Unisa with the following:
- a valid and active cellphone number
- an alternative and valid contact number (in case we can’t get hold of you via your cellphone number)
- a valid and correct courier / physical delivery address
In an effort to ensure that study material packs are delivered on time to the right student, Unisa requires the student (or a designated person) to present proof of identity and provide a contact number to the courier company.
This information, together with the recipient’s signature, will be captured on the courier delivery form to ensure that study material packs are delivered timeously and to the correct student.
Please note: Study materials must not be sent via the South African Post Office. UNISA now uses a private courier service for physical deliveries. The Post Office delivery option is no longer available for 2026.
3. Online Access
All study material is available digitally through the myUnisa portal at my.unisa.ac.za. Once registered and your myAdmin account is active, you can access e-tutorial letters, prescribed textbooks in PDF format, and all other digital resources for your registered modules. This is the most immediate option — materials are typically available as soon as registration is finalized.
Please note:
- Study material for second semester modules will only be sent to you at the start of the second semester. Second semester study material will also only be available on myUnisa at the start of the second semester.
- All communication sent to you after the initial study package (with the exception of study guides) will be sent electronically to your myLife email account (e.g. follow-up tutorial letters, examination timetables and results, financial statements). You will no longer receive such communication in printed format.
- If you do not collect your study material without a valid reason, you may be charged return costs.
- You are encouraged to access your study material online.
Post-Registration: Activating myUnisa and myLife Email
After registration, you must complete two critical steps before you can access your study environment:
- Claim your UNISA login credentials via the myAdmin portal at myadmin.unisa.ac.za. This is a one-time setup for new students where you create your permanent password.
- Activate your myLife email account. Every registered student receives a free email address in the format studentnumber@mylife.unisa.ac.za. This is the university’s only official communication channel. All exam timetables, results, financial statements, tutorial letters, and official notices are sent exclusively to this inbox. Correspondence sent to personal email addresses such as Gmail or Yahoo is not considered official. Log in to myUnisa after claiming your myAdmin account and follow the prompt to activate your myLife email. Note that activation can take up to 24 hours after your myAdmin password is set. Access your myLife inbox at mylife.unisa.ac.za.
To log into myUnisa, use the CAS login page at cas.unisa.ac.za/cas/login with your 8-digit student number and the password you created during myAdmin setup. The myUnisa student portal is at www.unisa.ac.za/sites/myunisa/default/.
