This article contains information on the Wits Business School, the WBS registration process, and guidelines for new and continuing students, thereby preparing them for the 2024 academic year.

The registration is done via the ITS iEnabler, which is a self-help/online system. The system is accessible off-campus for convenience. You don’t have to stand in long lines and don’t have to come to campus. This guide will enable you to process your online registration successfully.
Follow the steps that are provided to make this process an easy and exciting one.

WBS REGISTRATION GUIDELINES AND PORTAL

STEP 1:
  • Check the registration dates for your Faculty
  • Log on to the Wits Student Self-Service Portal.
  • New applicants must accept their firm offer before proceeding to register online.
    Please ensure that all required certified documents for your academic qualifications have been provided to the Student Enrollment Centre in hard copy before you accept your firm offer. Applicants who upload academic qualifications via the Student Self-Service Portal will need to comply with this requirement. Academic records are not required.
STEP 2:
  • Click on the Academic Information tile.
  • Click on Online Registration.
STEP 3:
  • Click on “Next” to proceed with online registration.
  • Verify your personal details. Click on the “Register Online” link.
STEP 4:
  • FIXED CURRICULUM: (1) Select Courses & Slots; (2) Click “Validate”; (3) Click “Enrol”; (4) Accept Terms & Conditions; (5) Click “Submit”
  • FLEXIBLE CURRICULUM: (1) Click on “Choices” (2) Select “Courses”  (3) Click “Add to the Planner”  (4) Click “Return”  (5) Click “Validate” (6) Click “Enrol”  (7) Accept Terms and Conditions  (8) Click “Submit.”
STEP 5:

You are now registered.

  1. To send the proof of registration to your email:
    • Click on the Academic Information tile.
    • Click on Proof of Registration. Click on the the View Details button. Enter the year or term, then click Generate.
  2. To print your proof of registration, access your Wits email address, open the attachment, and click “Print.”

STEP 6:

New undergraduate first-year students complete the biographical questionnaire. If you require assistance, please email bqhelp.BIS@wits.ac.za. (Please see the information below on this page.)

STEP 7:

To finish the online registration process, please apply for clubs, societies, or parking on the Student Self-Service Portal.
Sign Out.

STEP 8:

After you have registered, please collect or renew your student card and parking permit (if applicable) before the academic year begins.

  • If you are a first-year student, collect your registration bag from Hall 29 or from the Student Enrollment Centre once the January registration period has ended.
  • Collect or renew your “Kudu” card as follows:
    • Braamfontein Campus
      Robert Sobukwe Block, second floor, behind the Exams Hall—New and Returning Students, or
      Concourse, Solomon Mahlangu (Senate) House—all categories of campus users.
    • Parktown Campus
    • Education Campus
      Admin Block, first floor: all categories of campus users.
  • You are required to provide proof of identification, such as your ID document, a valid passport, or a driver’s licence.

How to Register as a New First-Year Student in 2024

Applicants and students will need to access the self-service portal at various stages of their registration. Your log-in details are as follows:

Student ID = Person Number
Password = date of birth in YYMMDD format.

1. ACCEPT YOUR OFFER
  • If you have completed the National Senior Certificate or an equivalent school-leaving qualification this year, you will receive an SMS in February 2023 shortly after the results are announced, confirming your firm offer.
  • Visit the self-service portal  to view your status and accept your offer
  • You must accept the offer via SMS or self-service within 3 days to secure your place. Should you not do so, the offer will be withdrawn, and the place will be offered to another student. No telephonic or email acceptances can be made. You may only accept one offer.
  • You may find that you have been placed on a waiting list or have a deferred status for your programme. As decision-making is an ongoing process, we will monitor the situation on a daily basis and notify you via SMS or self-service once a firm offer is made.

2. SETTLE THE FIRST FEE PAYMENT OR CONFIRM YOUR BURSARY OR SCHOLARSHIP
  • First Payment:
    • All self-funded students are required to make a first fee payment towards fees BEFORE registration. This is a standard amount of R9340 that is applicable to all South African students.  Students will not be able to register if this amount is not paid. Payments via EFT should be made 4 days in advance in order to clear before registration.
    • If you cannot make this payment by the time you register, you will be required to apply for a postponement to pay the the the full fees by the end of April. Students can complete the postponement on the student self-service portal and proceed immediately with Online Registration
    • You can only apply for a postponement if you have been offered, and have accepted, a place in a programme.
    • The first fee payment is not applicable if you:
      • have been made a provisional offer for NSFAS funding for 2024;
      • have been given a full Wits University Scholarship;
      • fall within the funding threshold,,,, i.e.,,,, your family earnings are below R350 000 per annum. If you fall into this category, you will be required to request a postponement of the first fee payment via the self-service portal;
      • You can present proof to the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office that you have been awarded an external bursary or scholarship.
      • Are an international student.
  •  International students
    • must pay 75% of the annual tuition fee and other related costs, as well as as as as the on-campus accommodation fee,,,, on or before registration.

3. REGISTER BEFORE THE DEADLINE
  • Registration is the process by which you formally enrol at the university. Most students can register online from home using the Self-Service Portal and are encouraged to register off campus. Should you be unable to complete your registration online or if you need assistance,, such as curriculum counselling, you may register on campus at Assisted Registration.
  • Each faculty has specific dates and deadlines for both online and assisted registration (scroll down to view faculty dates). You must complete your registration within these times,, or your offer may be withdrawn. The university cannot guarantee a position for students who do not register on time.
  • Avoid the crowds and register online! Click here for a step-by-step guide. You will be asked for the following information during online registration:
    • Confirmation of Personal Details
    • Medical Aid details,, where applicable
    • If you wish to be considered for a funding opportunity, provide provide an indication of your annual household income
    • If your curriculum is flexible, so are so are so are so are the courses you wish to register for.
    • Should you require parking, please apply for a parking permit on the self-service portal.
  • Should you be unable to register online, or if you have special requirements, you may register on campus at Assisted Registration on the specific dates for your faculty (scroll down to view faculty dates).  The fees, Financial Aid & Scholarship Office, International Students Office, Faculty, and Student Enrollment Centre are available at Assisted Registration.You will also be able to collect your student card, parking permit, and goodie bag at Assisted Registration. Remember to bring your ID document with you to Assisted Registration.
  • Once enrolled, you will be able to access more functionality on the self-service portal, such as proof of registration as well as your timetable.
  • Online Biographical Questionnaire: Please complete this survey while registering on the self-service portal. The university collects biographical information from all first-year undergraduate students to develop a better understanding of the financial, educational,,,, and social needs of our students. The information obtained from this questionnaire will assist the university in offering relevant and responsive support throughout your studies.
    • Students may be required to reset their password on the self-service portal to complete the survey. 4. COLLECT YOUR STUDENT CARD, GOODIE-BAG AND PARKING PERMIT IF YOU REQUESTED PARKING
  • If you register online, you will need to come to campus to collect the following:
    • A registration goodie bag from Hall 29 or from the Student Enrollment Centre after Registration Week.
    • Collect your “Kudu” student card from any Kudu Card Office. You are required to provide proof of identification, such as your ID document, a a a a valid passport,,,, or a a a a driver’s licence.
    • Parking permit if parking is required. (Complete your application for parking on the self-service portal, and then collect your sticker from the Parking office.)
5. ORIENTATION AND WELCOME DAY
  • Orientation for all new first-year students takes place in the afternoons from March March March March 1 to 5. A detailed programme will be published here soon.
