The Office for Student Leadership Development (SLD) at University of the Free State has announced the commencement of the FutureLEAD Challenge (FLC) programme. The programme aims to develop leadership skills in interested students from all three campuses, whether they are undergraduate or postgraduate students. The FLC is a co-curricular leadership development programme that utilizes a blended learning format, where students engage in online discussions and assessments, and on-campus lectures and seminars on leadership. The FLC programme commences on April 17, 2023, and offers students an opportunity to acquire knowledge, skills and values that are highly valued in the corporate market.
The FLC programme has been designed in partnership with the Unit for Institutional Change and Social Justice. It is a voluntary programme, and participation does not offer any academic credits. The programme is designed to help students develop and grow as future leaders, whether they want to utilise their leadership skills in their personal life ambitions, career ambitions or in helping communities. Students who participate in the FLC programme will be better prepared for Student Governance Elections and other leadership roles that may arise in their future.

FLC SCHEDULE FOR 2023
The FLC programme is spread over a period of 4-7 months, and students can engage in online discussions and assessments on Blackboard. The programme has been designed to help students gain access to knowledge and understanding of leadership in various situations and environments. The programme includes online assessments per module, and students can earn two types of certificates for their participation.
PROGRAMME CERTIFICATION
The Certificate of Participation provides students with acknowledgment that they have engaged in the programme for one or more modules and passed the respective tests. The Certificate of Completion provides evidence to students that they have completed all the sessions and passed all the tests over a period of 4 months, and also practically applied the learning over a period of 6-7 months. The Certificate of Participation will require that students complete at least one of the four themes/modules, and a pass rate of 60% is required. Students who wish to achieve the Certificate of Completion will be required to complete all four themes/modules, as per the instructions given and pass each with a score of 70%.
HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE FLC PROGRAMME
To register for the FLC programme, interested students must complete the MS Form: FLC 2023 Registration, indicating their interest to participate and providing their particulars by April 3, 2023. The programme schedule for 2023 is yet to be announced, and students can visit the SLD office for more information.
