VACANT POSITIONS, ROLES, REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS AT THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE (MOD)

The prospective candidates willing to join the Ministry of Defence (MOD) MUST meet the following conditions and academic qualifications:

General Conditions

• Candidates must possess a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a mean grade ranging from D plain to C- (Minus), depending on the post.
• Additional qualifications, such as Artisan National Trade Test Certificates or NYS certificates, may be required for certain positions.

5. Artisan III (Tailor) – CSG 15 – Nineteen (19) POSTS (Advert No. 5/2023)
6. Artisan III (Motor Vehicle Electrician) – CSG 15 – Ten (10) POSTS (Advert No. 6/2023)

Here is a summary of the Basic Salary, Duties and Responsibilities, and Requirements for each position:

1. DRIVER II – CSG 15 Basic Salary: Kshs. 15,670 – 17,570 p.m. Duties and Responsibilities: Driving a motor vehicle, carrying out routine checks, detecting and reporting vehicle malfunctions, maintaining work tickets, ensuring vehicle security and safety, and maintaining cleanliness. Requirements: KCSE mean grade D (Plain), a valid driving license, First-Aid Certificate Course, passed Suitability Test for Driver Grade III, current Certificate of Good Conduct, and at least two (2) years driving experience.
2. ARTISAN (PANEL BEATER III) – CSG 15 Basic Salary: Ksh. 15,670 – 17,570 p.m. Duties and Responsibilities: Basic removal of dents, gas welding, soldering, brazing, replacement of vehicle body parts, straightening of chassis, repair of radiators, and exhaust pipes. Requirements: KCSE mean grade ‘D’ plain, Artisan National Trade Test Certificate Grade III/apprentice Certificate, and having NYS certificates is an added advantage.
3. ARTISAN (SPRAY PAINTER III) – CSG 15 Basic Salary: Ksh. 15,670 – 17,570 p.m. Duties and Responsibilities: Basic spray-painting, maintenance of spray-painting tools, and cleaning of the workplace. Requirements: KCSE mean grade ‘D’ plain, Artisan National Trade Test Certificate Grade III/apprentice Certificate, and having NYS certificates is an added advantage.
4. ARTISAN (WELDER III) – CSG 15 Basic Salary: Ksh. 15,670 – 17,570 p.m. Duties and Responsibilities: Basic welding, maintenance of welding tools, and cleaning of the workplace. Requirements: KCSE mean grade ‘D’ plain, Artisan National Trade Test Certificate Grade III/apprentice Certificate, and having NYS certificates is an added advantage.
5. ARTISAN III (TAILOR) – CSG 15 Basic Salary: Ksh. 15,670 – 17,570 p.m. Duties and Responsibilities: Stitching, threading, and needlework on workpieces, cleaning of workplace and machines. Requirements: KCSE mean grade D plain, Artisan National Trade Test Certificate Grade III/apprentice Certificate, and having NYS certificates is an added advantage.
6. ARTISAN III (MOTOR VEHICLE ELECTRICIAN) – CSG 15 Basic Salary: Ksh. 15,670 – 17,570 p.m. Duties and Responsibilities: Installing, repairing, wiring, and maintaining electrical components in vehicles, checking and ensuring vehicles’ working condition. Requirements: KCSE mean grade D plain, Artisan National Trade Test Certificate Grade III/apprentice Certificate, and having NYS certificates is an added advantage.
7. MOTOR VEHICLE MECHANIC III – CSG 15 Basic Salary: Ksh. 15,670 – 17,570 p.m. Duties and Responsibilities: Inspecting and testing vehicles, preventive maintenance, maintaining vehicle functional condition, verifying vehicle serviceability, maintaining vehicle records. Requirements: KCSE mean grade ‘D’ plain, Artisan National Trade Test Certificate Grade III/apprentice Certificate, and having NYS certificates is an added advantage.
8. COOK III – CSG 15 Basic Salary: Ksh. 15,670 – 17,570 p.m. Duties and Responsibilities: Preparation of raw foods for cooking and presenting meals, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, monitoring food inventory, and ensuring proper storage of food items. Requirements: KCSE mean grade D plain, Artisan National Trade Test Certificate Grade III/apprentice Certificate, and having NYS certificates is an added advantage.
9. HOUSEKEEPING ASSISTANT III – CSG 15 Basic Salary: Ksh. 15,670 – 17,570 p.m. Duties and Responsibilities: Cleaning and maintaining premises, ensuring proper waste disposal, setting up conference rooms, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene of linen and rooms, and reporting any maintenance issues. Requirements: KCSE mean grade D plain, relevant training in housekeeping and laundry services, and having NYS certificates is an added advantage.
10. OFFICE ASSISTANT III – CSG 15 Basic Salary: Ksh. 15,670 – 17,570 p.m. Duties and Responsibilities: Cleaning offices and compound, ensuring proper waste disposal, maintaining cleanliness of offices and furniture, preparing and serving tea, and assisting in running errands. Requirements: KCSE mean grade D plain, a certificate in computer applications, and having NYS certificates is an added advantage.
11. GROUNDSMAN III – CSG 15 Basic Salary: Ksh. 15,670 – 17,570 p.m. Duties and Responsibilities: Maintaining and caring for lawns, gardens, and sports grounds, planting and trimming trees and hedges, maintaining cleanliness, and handling garden tools and equipment. Requirements: KCSE mean grade D plain, relevant training in gardening or horticulture, and having NYS certificates is an added advantage.
12. SUPPORT STAFF III – CSG 15 Basic Salary: Ksh. 15,670 – 17,570 p.m. Duties and Responsibilities: General cleaning of offices and premises, running errands, performing office assistance tasks, ensuring proper waste disposal, and maintaining cleanliness. Requirements: KCSE mean grade D plain and having NYS certificates is an added advantage.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE (MOD) RECRUITMENT

1. Download the application form PSC2 (Revised 2016) from the Public Service Commission website (www.publicservice.go.ke) or the Ministry of Defence website (www.mod.go.ke).
2. Complete the application form and submit it along with copies of the required certificates.
