We are pleased to announce that the application for the 2023 Teacher Internship Opportunities in Kenya’s Public Primary and Junior Secondary Schools is now open.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) of Kenya is on the hunt for qualified professionals seeking an opportunity to develop their teaching skills. In an initiative aimed to equip and sustain the competencies of people entering the teaching profession, TSC has announced 20,000 teacher internship posts. The positions, 18,000 in Junior Secondary Schools and 2,000 in Primary Schools, are expected to enhance the teaching experience of the interns through mentorship, coaching, and exposure to practical teaching.
Benefits
The Teacher Internship Programme offers participants a wealth of benefits. It provides an excellent opportunity to acquire real-world experience, develop a strong professional network, and improve teaching skills through rigorous mentorship and coaching. Interns will be immersed in an environment that prioritizes competency-based learning, preparing them for the dynamic world of teaching.
While the programme does not offer regular remuneration, interns attached to Primary Schools will be eligible for a monthly stipend of Kshs. 15,000, and those in Junior Secondary Schools will receive Kshs. 20,000. Please note that these stipends are subject to statutory deductions, where applicable.
Upon successful completion of the one-year programme, interns will be awarded a certificate, reinforcing their enhanced skills and teaching competence.
Eligibility
Applicants for these intern positions must meet certain eligibility criteria.
Junior Secondary School Teacher Interns
To qualify for the Junior Secondary School internships, a candidate:
- Must be a Kenyan citizen.
- Must hold at least a diploma in education with a minimum mean Grade of C+ and C+ in two teaching Subjects in KCSE or its equivalent.
- Must be a registered teacher with Teachers Service Commission.
Teachers from TVET institutions are strongly encouraged to apply.
Primary School Teacher Interns
For Primary School internships, a candidate:
- Must be a Kenyan citizen.
- Must hold a PI Certificate.
- Must be a registered teacher with Teachers Service Commission.
Teachers with Upgrade Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (CBC) will have an added advantage.
Application Procedure
Interested and eligible candidates are invited to submit their applications online through the Commission’s website under “Careers” or at teachersonline.tsc.go.ke.
Please note that manual applications will not be considered. During the application process, applicants will be required to provide the following:
- A copy of Teacher Registration Certificate/print-out from TSC online portal as evidence of registration as a teacher.
- A copy of National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) card (where applicable).
- A copy of the National Identity Card (ID) or Passport.
- Two (2) color passport size photographs.
- A copy of National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) card.
- A copy of Kenya Revenue Authority Personal Identification Number (KRA PIN).
