DSI-NRF COE in Human Development Bursary – 2024

NRF Postgraduate Scholarships - 2021

Each year, the DSI-NRF Centre for Excellence in Human Development awards bursaries to high-performing master’s and doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows who wish to do research that falls into one of the CoE’s four thematic or cross-cutting areas.Regarding the bursaries, the Department of Research, Administration, and Development at the University of Limpopo encourages all potential applicants to submit their applications.

Value of the bursary award:

  • Master’s students are funded for two years at R70,000 a year
  • Doctoral students are funded for three years at R100,000 a year
  • Post-Doctoral Fellows are funded for three years at R200,000 a year

DSI-NRF CENTRE OF EXCELENCE BURSARY APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Successful applicants and their supervisors sign performance agreements with the CoE, with the following obligations:

  • Master’s students must fulfil the requirements for their degree within two years and have at least one co-authored paper in a peer-reviewed journal accepted for publication;
  • That Doctoral students must fulfil the requirements for their degrees within three years and have at least two first-authored papers accepted for publication or published;
  • Post-Doctoral Fellows must have at least two first- or co-authored papers accepted for publication in the press or published in each year of the three-year fellowship.

Applicants must provide the following documents:

  • Proof of Registration
  • Copy of photo page of ID or passport
  • Project Proposal and relevance to the topic of Human Development
  • Academic transcripts
  • Supervisory recommendation and letter of support

DSI-NRF CENTRE OF EXCELENCE BURSARY APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

As of the 2024 funding year, all postgraduate students will be expected to apply on the NRF Online Submission System by accessing the link: https://nrfsubmission.nrf.ac.za/ No manual applications will be accepted.

The closing date for applications is yet to be announced.

Applications may be made by students directly or by supervisors on behalf of students. The grant and bursary rules can be found here
