The University of South Africa (UNISA), the country’s publicly funded institution committed to open and distance education, is welcoming applications for the position of Online Tutors (E-tutors) under an independent contract basis. This recruitment is specifically for the College of Economic and Management Sciences, under the School of Economic and Financial Sciences.
UNISA e Tutor Benefits
As an E-tutor at UNISA, you will get the opportunity to:
- Deliver content and pedagogy of your subject matter to students.
- Provide students with online academic and technical support.
- Facilitate online delivery of tutorials.
- Manage students’ online learning experiences.
- Facilitate students’ online interactions with their peers.
UNISA e Tutor Eligibility
The basic requirements for this position are:
- Experience with teaching in an ODeL environment.
- You should not be a UNISA Fixed Term or Permanent staff member.
- You should have ongoing access to an Internet connection at your own cost.
- Own copies of software packages that may be required for teaching e.g., Internet browsers, word processing, etc.
- Willingness to take the module-specific assessment and tutor development training.
Apart from these, there are module-specific eligibility requirements based on the field, which includes, but not limited to:
- Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research, Physics, Quantitative Management, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Investments, Risk Management, and Insurance.
Please note, as an Independent Contractor, you will not be regarded as an employee of UNISA and will not be entitled to any benefits such as medical aid, office space, equipment, leave, etc., in terms of the UNISA conditions of service. You will be expected to provide your own infrastructure, including your own computer, your own Internet access, workspace, and any other office-related equipment.

- Academic transcript.

Application Dates
The deadline for the application is 14th July 2023 at 16:00. After the closing date, the shortlisted candidates will have to undergo a tutor development programme. Appointments will only be finalised and activated after the successful completion of online training.
