University of Johannesburg, UJ Academic Calendar 2023 Academic Sessions

The management of the University of Johannesburg (UJ) has opened the student registration portal for fresh and continuing students to register their courses for the semester both at the diploma, undergraduate and the postgraduate level. Specific dates and deadlines have been set for the registration as well as the closure of the registration portal. It is advisable to register early in order not to lose your studentship at UJ as late registration will not be permitted.

The registration deadline or closing date is always a registration submission timeline that is set by the institution for registering courses and modules for the semester. South African schools (universities and colleges) usually have their submission deadline within 2 weeks to 1 month after the student registration portal is opened.

Therefore, it is expected for all UJ students (both new and old) to meet the stated registration timeline as stated below to be on the safe side.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Online registration for second semester modules is open.  Please note the 2023 second semester registration is only for returning students, i.e. those who have modules to complete.  There is no second semester intake for new students.

UJ has always put measures in place to assist students to register and successfully pursue their studies. These include, but are not limited to:
  • NSFAS students can register without any requirement of upfront payment once the University receives the list of funded students.
  • Returning NSFAS students who, for one reason or another, owe the University money from previous years, may also register without upfront payment.
  • These students are only required to acknowledge that they are indeed aware of the money they owe the University.
  • Furthermore, for students who are performing well academically but do not have NSFAS or funds for registration (meaning they cannot afford to pay registration fee as per the set criteria), the University has created a fund called the SRC Trust Fund to assist them with registration fees. This fund has been in existence since the inception of the University of Johannesburg. The University encourages current and prospective students who faces challenges with registration to contact Student Finance at studentaccounts@uj.ac.za.
