Application for the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Scholarship 2022/2023. Entry is now open by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in USA for all interested students, who meet all of the eligibility & criteria listed below.

University of Ghana

The University of Ghana has received funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation of New York, USA, to train additional PhD students in a project titled Enhancing Capacity and Postgraduate Education in the Humanities+ (ENCAPEH+) at University of Ghana. The purpose of the project is to support further doctoral training in the Humanities at the University of Ghana.

The focus of the fellowship is in the following disciplines/units:

  1. Languages (including English,  Linguistics,  French, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Kiswahili and Russian);
  2. Arts (including Philosophy and Classics, Archaeology and Heritage Studies, the Study of Religions and History);
  3. Performing Arts (including Dance, Music and Theatre Arts);
  4. African Studies

Eligibility

An applicant for the PhD Fellowships:

  1. Should hold MA/MSc/MPhil degree in any of the disciplines listed above, or in a related field.
  2. Should have excellent academic credentials and demonstrate commitment to pursue an academic career.
  3. Women are particularly encouraged to apply.

Current First Year PhD students in any of the departments listed above may apply. Students should attach their admission letter from the Graduate School

How to Apply

Applicants should press and hold the Ctrl button and click the link below to complete the application form and submit the following by July 15, 2021:

  1. An updated CV
  2. Names and contact details of three referees
  3. Certified copies of First Degree and Masters certificates and transcripts
  4. PhD research proposal of NOT more than 3 pages clearly outlining the background, objectives, scope and methodology
  5. A one-page motivation statement
  6. A work plan and a budget attached as separate sheets
