The application for the Unisa Master’s and doctoral Bursary for the academic year 2022/2023 is now open by Unisa for all South Africans in South Africa.
The Unisa hereby invites all outstanding students to apply for the 2022/2023 Bursary. It is meant for students that intend to, or are currently studying towards degree and diploma programmes that are aligned to the following listed below:

UNISA MASTER’S AND DOCTORAL BURSARY APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY
- UNISA permanent staff members are not eligible for the bursary
- The bursary is offered to both South African and international students, with preference given to South African students according to an 80/20 per cent ratio.
- M&D research students: If a student did not complete their Research Proposal Module (by 31 January 2023) students application will not be considered for the bursary. Master’s Coursework students: If a student did not complete their Honors/Postgraduate Diploma qualification (by 31 January 2023) student’s application will not be considered for the bursary.
- ONLY applicants who are temporarily registered with UNISA by 28 February 2022 will be considered.
- Bursary award is subject to satisfactory academic progress report from the supervisor(s) (found in Section C of the application form) that recommends financial support based on the student’s progress measured against the set plans/research activities as scheduled in the supervision contract from the previous academic year.
- Awarded students are ONLY funded for the first TWO, THREE or FOUR consecutive years of study1
- Students registering for special study programmes, including certificates and nondegree purpose studies in 2023, are not eligible for this bursary
- Students who already hold a postgraduate degree at the same or a higher level are not eligible for this bursary
- Unisa gives no guarantee that the bursary will be awarded to all eligible students, as the bursary is subject to the availability of funds
- If you have been a beneficiary for the full bursary years you will NOT be funded for an additional year whatsoever.

N.B: Only online applications submitted via myUnisa link will be considered. No hard copy or e-mail applications will be considered.

CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS
- Completed applications need to be submitted on or before 31 January 2023. Late applications will not be considered.
