DSI/NRF SARChI Postdoctoral Fellowship – 2022/2023

The application for the DSI/NRF SARChI Postdoctoral Fellowship for the academic year 2022/2023 is now open by DSI/NRF SARChI Postdoctoral for all South Africans in South Africa. 

Scholarship

The DSI/NRF SARChI hereby invites all outstanding students to apply for the 2022/2023 Fellowship. It is meant for students that intend to, or are currently studying towards degree and diploma programmes that are aligned to the following listed below:

  • Postdoctoral Courses

The Postdoctoral Fellows will be required to register at the University of the Western Cape, and will contribute to the research areas of the DSI/NRF SARChI Chairs which have complementary research programmes, and which seek to consolidate a world-class hub in the global south in the field of health policy and systems research.

The purpose of the SARChI Postdoctoral Fellowship is to contribute to:

  • career development in health systems research, with a specific emphasis on developing a pipeline of South African scholars;
  • building this field with partners in South Africa, and internationally;
  • enhancement of the capacity of the UWC School of Public Health.

DSI/NRF SARCHI POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY

Eligible applicants are required to have (in addition to the specific requirements per post):

  • Completed a PhD in the last five years and may not have held prior permanent academic posts. For applicants who did not obtain their qualification in South Africa, a valid SAQA certificate should be on hand at the time of application.
  • Citizenship of a sub-Saharan African country or be an expatriate African. Preference will be given to South African citizens or permanent residents.
  • experience and expertise in qualitative and quantitative research skills, literature reviews, research prioritization
  • have a strong academic record with evidence of research experience and peer-reviewed publications.

Advantageous skills

  • Candidates with project management experience and ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders are preferred.
  • Candidates with experience organising online and face to face workshops and engagements are preferred.
  • Candidates with experience with social media also preferred.

The fellowship is initially tenable for one year starting in 2022, and is valued at R333 000 per annum (tax-free). Renewal for a second year will be considered depending on satisfactory academic progress and continued funding.

HOW TO APPLY FOR DSI/NRF SARCHI POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

Eligible candidates should provide the following:

  • A cover letter motivating for the candidate’s suitability to the positions available
  • A one page summary outlining their research interest/project
  • A CV including all conference attendance, publications and other scholarly research output
  • Copy of ID or passport
  • Copy of SAQA certificate (where applicable)
  • Evidence of publication record and writing skills (which can be copies of or a link to a relevant peer-reviewed publication)
  • An academic transcript
  • Names and contact details of at least 3 referees who have supervised or worked with the candidate and can speak to their experience and skills

  • Completed applications need to submitted by no later than 17:00 on 16 January 2022. Late applications will not be considered.
