The application for the Government of Brunei Darussalam Student Scholarships for the academic year 2024/2024 is now open by Government of Brunei Darussalam for all South Africans in South Africa.
The Brunei Darussalam Government is offering scholarships for South Africans to study full-time, on-campus diplomas, undergraduate degrees, and master’s programmes starting in July/August 2023 at the following participating public Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Brunei Darussalam:
- Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD);
- Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA);
- Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB);
- Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPU SB);
- Politeknik Brunei (PB)
The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) is the Nominating Agency for South Africans who wish to apply for the Government of Brunei Darussalam Scholarship. The information below is for South African applicants only. GOVERNMENT OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY
Criteria and Eligibility
- Citizens of, but not limited to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Commonwealth and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries (this includes South Africa);
- Applicants must be between the ages of 18-35 for Undergraduate and Diploma programmes and younger than 35 for Master’s studies, by 31 July 2023;
- Applicants must be in good health and have a strong academic record;
- Applicants must apply for a police clearance certificate (at their own cost) certifying that they have no civil or criminal charges against them;
HOW TO APPLY FOR GOVERNMENT OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS
South African applicants who meet the above-mentioned criteria should submit an application form with application documents to the Department of Higher Education and Training by email at: internationalscholarships@dhet.gov.za.
Applicants applying to Universiti Brunei Darussalam must also complete an online application at: https://apply.ubd.edu.bn/orbeon/uis-welcome/.

Applications are strictly online via the BDGS Application Portal.
- The deadline for submitting applications to the DHET is 15 February 2023.
