In South Africa, matriculation (or matric ) is the final year of high school and the qualification received on graduating from high school, and the minimum university entrance requirements. However, the school-leaving exams, which are government-administered, are known as the “matric exams.
Its no longer news that the pandemic shook the world at large and as a result, a lot of activities was out of hold.
The Marking of the Matric exams is one of such activities that was affected. However, the Marking of the exams is already coming to a conclusion. Therefore, the long-awaited matric results has been released on January 16th, 2023. - Gauteng: 82.8%
- Western Cape: 81.2%
- North West: 78.2
- KwaZulu-Natal (KZN): 76.8
- Mpumalanga: 73.6%
- Eastern Cape: 73.0%
- NC 71.4%
- Limpopo: 66.7%
There are various ways you can access your result. You do not need to be near your school or a government education office to get them. Below are ways you can easily get your exam results.
HOW TO CHECK YOUR 2022/2023 MATRIC RESULTS THROUGH A MOBILE PHONE
You can access your result by dialing a USSD code using your phone or by sending an SMS to the provided number:
The USSD code is *120*35658#. Follow the steps below;
- Enter your ID number and get your results per subject.
- When you register for matric results using the SMS, send your ID and exam number to 35658. You will receive a confirmation message with your marks.
Caxton Local Media have partnered with the Department of Basic Education to make this option available to students. Registered learners will receive their results message via SMS, and will then be able to view their results per subject

HOW TO CHECK YOUR 2022/2023 MATRIC RESULTS ONLINE
You can also get your matric result from online news websites. Some websites publish the scores on the day the government releases the grades.
The government posts the results through the Department of Basic Education website: www.education.gov.za
Below are the steps to follow inorder to get your Matric result online:
- Visit the government website above.
- Register using your details.
- Click on the link for 2020 NSC exam results.
- Enter your examination number.
- Your results will appear on the screen.
- Click the download button and print.
Apart from the above methods, you can also call the Department of Basic Education when the results are released. However, it might take time before you get your grades through these means as many students will be calling the department to get their scores.

- The web address to use is: https://www.education.gov.za/MatricResults/ExamResults/tabid/175/Default.aspx
- Input your ‘Examination Number’ in the search box and click the ‘SEARCH’ button.
- You can then view the status of your matric result.
NOTE: A device with a web browser and an active connection to the internet will be required to perform this task.
HOW TO CHECK YOUR 2022/2023 MATRIC RESULTS THROUGH THE NEWSPAPER
This is the most convenient way to receive your matric results. The disadvantage of this is that Newspapers might be sold out as soon as they hit the streets. If you must use this means, bear in mind that it will appear in this manner; your exam number will be followed by your surname and initials with either a B for bachelor’s degree or D for diploma. This will help you see what options are available to you at university.
HOW TO CHECK YOUR 2022/2023 MATRIC RESULTS THROUGH THE HIGH SCHOOL YOU ATTENDED
Another way to get your Matric result is from your high school. The high school receives statements of learners’ results two days after the release date.
So, if you sat for the Matric exams you could access your result through any of the means above. You can get your result through a short message, through your high school, Newspapers or online. However, remember to have your personal details handy, such as your name, home language and examination number if you are logging into the Government website.
