The application for the Pan African University Scholarships for the academic year 2021/2022 is now open by the African Union Commission for all international students in Africa.
The African Union Commission hereby invites all outstanding students to apply for the Pan African University Scholarships. It is meant for students that intend to, or are currently studying towards degree and diploma programmes that are aligned to the following listed below:
- Tertiary institution programmes
The Pan African University Scholarships programme assists by supporting financially deserving students with great academic potential to take their first steps in achieving their dreams and obtaining their masters and PhD degree. Pan African University Scholarships programme aims to fund academically deserving students who do not have the financial means to study full-time towards an postgraduate degree.

PAN AFRICAN UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY
- candidates from African countries and African Diaspora;
- male candidate not above 30 years and female candidates not above 35 years;
- must hold an appropriate undergraduate degree from a recognised university, with at least a second class upper division or its equivalent for a Master’s programme in a relevant field;
- must hold an appropriate Master’s degree from a recognised university in a relevant field for a PhD programme;
- candidates must be willing to make an undertaking to serve any African Union Member State for a period equal to at least the duration of the scholarship after the successful completion of their studies;
- not to engage in any income generating activities that will interfere with their academic programmes (student engagement in income generating activities shall be approved by the PAU Rectorate, only if such activities will not interfere with the student’s academic programme).
HOW TO APPLY FOR PAN AFRICAN UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS
Applications are strictly online via https://www.au-pau.org/submission/. All applicants must submit the following documents –
Master’s students:
- Certified copies of relevant certificates, transcripts (from university and high school);
- Passport or National I.D. card (personal details page);
- Clear colored passport size photograph (2cmx2cm);
- Detailed CV;
- Recommendation letter from ONE of his/her former University lecturers;
- Names of 3 Reference University lecturers (with email addresses and whatsapp number) (*Mandatory).
Candidates may be required to undergo a written/oral examination after pre-selection. Candidates for the Master in Conference Interpreting and Translation programmes are required to have excellent knowledge of at least two of the African Union’s official languages (Arabic, English, French, Spanish and Portuguese).
PhD students:
- Certified copies of relevant certificates, transcripts;
- Passport or National I.D. card (personal details page);
- Clear colored passport size photograph (2cmx2cm);
- Detailed CV;
- Recommendation letters from 2 Professors;
- A 3 to 4 page Research Concept Note (tentative title, research questions, objectives, significance of the research etc.);
- Names of 3 Reference University Teachers (with email addresses and whatsapp number);(Mandatory).
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS
- Completed applications need to be submitted by no later than 30 July 2021.
