1. Product and Packaging Designer (Western Cape)

Requirements & Eligibility

Educational Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Graphic Design, Product Design, Industrial Design, or a related field.

Experience

  • 3–5 years experience in a similar product/packaging design role.
  • Minimum 3 years experience within retail or FMCG environment (essential).

Hard (Technical) Skills

  • Design Software: Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
  • Packaging Materials & Production:
    • Deep understanding of materials such as paperboard, corrugated cardboard, plastics, flexible and sustainable packaging.
    • Familiarity with die-cutting, offset/flexo/digital printing, varnishes, laminates, embossing, foil stamping, etc.
  • Design for Production Efficiency: Focus on material optimization and cost-effective production.

Graphic Design & Branding:

  • Typography, colour theory (Pantone, CMYK separation), layout, composition, and visual hierarchy.
  • Ability to translate brand guidelines into cohesive packaging that reinforces brand identity.
  • Sustainability: Understanding of eco-friendly materials, circular economy design, and recycling principles.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of South African labelling laws, consumer safety standards, and packaging regulations.
  • Market Research: Ability to analyse trends, competitors, and consumer behaviour to inform design strategy.

Soft Skills & Competencies

  • Strong stakeholder and supplier management.
  • Highly conceptual, creative, and proactive with strong ownership mindset.
  • Excellent attention to detail and visual storytelling ability.
