SA MRC CAREER (VACANT) POSITIONS, ROLES, REQUIREMENTS, AND QUALIFICATIONS 

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for the positions shown below.

1. PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR

Responsibilities:

  • • Establishing relationships with stakeholders such as healthcare clinic staff
  • • Quality assurance of data
  • • Staff supervision
  • • Planning (daily, weekly, monthly) and managerial tasks
  • • Administrative tasks and oversight
  • • Stigma reduction training and intervention delivery as required
  • • Recruitment and tracking of participants as needed
  • • Completion of consent and study interviews as needed

Core Requirements:

  • • Four-year tertiary qualification/honours degree in Public Health or social sciences
  • • 3 or more years of research experience working with substance use, gender, and HIV work (including delivery of evidence based biobehavioural interventions).
  • • 2 years’ experience with administrative duties of research studies.
  • • Previous experience in project management or supervisory roles in conducting interventions and other fieldwork activities for community-based research projects particularly on HIV prevention/treatment and substance use in the community.
  • • Experience with staff supervision/training
  • • Speak fluent English AND isiXhosa/Afrikaans (preferably some level of both isiXhosa and Afrikaans)
  • • Have a valid South African driver’s license with current driving experience.
  • • Be comfortable working with participants who use substances
  • • Familiarity with communities in Cape Town area

A salary in the region of R443 786 per annum, cost-to-company will be negotiated in consideration of experience and qualifications.

HOW TO APPLY FOR SOUTH AFRICAN MEDICAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (SA MRC) JOBS

Please read the instructions carefully before applying.

  1. A position becomes vacant at the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC):  A position becomes available, which the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) decides to fill either internally or externally.
  2. The position is advertised: The job is advertised on the South African Medical Research Council (SA MRC) careers portal, internal notice boards. A closing date is also indicated on the advertisement.
  3. A shortlist is created: Applicants who meet the minimum requirements are shortlisted by HR and the line manager. Depending on the number of shortlisted candidates, applicants may be required to do assessments or be invited for an interview.
  4. Shortlisted applicants are invited to an interview. The line manager, team member, and HR are present at the interview. Depending on the outcome of the interviews, it’s possible to select the best applicants based on their interview and CV.  If there is a “tie” between candidates, further interviews or assessments can be requested.
  5. The position is filled. The best candidate for the job is selected. We make an offer. The applicant then either accepts or declines the offer.
