1. Manager in Training

Requirements & Eligibility

Role: Manager in Training — JR103944
Location: Camps Bay, Western Cape — Full time
Minimum requirements

  • Standard 10 / Grade 12 (required).
  • Minimum of 5 years butchery experience (practical, hands-on).

Core competencies (what you must demonstrate)

  • Customer orientation & communication.
  • Business mindedness (profit focus, stock control).
  • Knowledge of Food Safety procedures and food retail.
  • Leadership & people-management skills.

Key on-the-job expectations

  • Product preparation & meat cutting to recipe/spec.
  • Merchandising and stock rotation (planogram adherence).
  • Hygiene, equipment care and temperature control.
  • Basic admin: stock-take, placing orders, rostering.
  • Coaching, supervising and discipline of direct reports.
Possible salary (what to expect)

The advert does not state salary. Typical pay for “Manager in Training” / junior management roles in South Africa varies by sector and location. As a quick market snapshot:

  • A Manager-in-Training average reported on Indeed is about R20,941 per month (≈ R251,292 per year).
  • Butchery/retail manager pay varies by city — some reports show monthly figures from around R21k to R44k depending on location and employer.

  1. A position becomes vacant at Pick n Pay:  A position becomes available, which Pick n Pay decide to fill either internally or externally.
  2. The position is advertised: The job is advertised on Pick n Pay careers portal, internal notice boards. A closing date is also indicated on the advert(s).
  3. A shortlist is created: Applicants who meet the minimum requirements are shortlisted by HR and the line manager. Depending on the number of shortlisted candidates, applicants may be required to do assessments or are invited for an interview.
  4. Shortlisted applicants are invited to an interview: The line manager, team member and HR are present at the interview. Depending on the outcome of the interviews, it’s possible to select the best applicants based on their interview and CV.  If there is a “tie” between candidates, further interviews or assessments can be requested.
  5. The position is filled: The best candidate for the job is selected. We make an offer. The applicant then either accepts or declines the offer.
