UNIVERSITY OF JOHANNESBURG (UJ) CAREER (VACANT) POSITIONS, ROLES, REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS 

Applications are invited from qualified persons for the positions shown below.

1. Lecturer (College of Business & Economics: School of Public Management, Governance & Public Policy)

Minimum requirements
  • A master’s degree in public management and governance or relevant related field (on NQF 9 level). To be considered for the Lecturer position, the successful incumbent will be required to undertake a doctorate qualification (NQF 10) within a five (5) year period public management and governance or relevant related field. The position will be offered on a fixed-term contract and converted to a permanent contract on the attainment of the doctorate.
  • Proven excellence in academic study record.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies at postgraduate level.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office package.
  • Previous lecturing experience in the relevant subject disciplines at a Higher Education institution similar to UJ.
  • Proven supervision record of postgraduate students (Honour’s and master’s degree).
  • Evidence of research outputs.
  • Proven ability to think critically, analytically, and laterally across disciplines and sectors (transdisciplinary).
  • Fluent in written and oral English communication.
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in academic English.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Good listening skills.
  • Good conflict management skills.
  • Ability to monitor and coach student performance and provide critical feedback in an objective and professional manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with others.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • The ability to publish in high-impact journals.
  • The ability to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Research management skills.
  • Overall management skills.
Recommendations:
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a relevant doctoral degree (on NQF 10 level).
  • Proven knowledge of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) content and ability to teach the same modules at UG and PG students.
  • Proven supervision record at Masters’ and Doctoral level.
  • Proven publication record in DHET Accredited journals.
  • Experience in online and hybrid teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • NRF rated scholar or the ability to obtain an NRF rating in three years’ time.
