Application for the Department of Basic Education (DBE) 255 100 School Teacher Assistant Application form for 2022 Recruitment is now open for all interested South African applicants.

The Department of Basic Education announces the opening of applications for Phase iV of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) in the sector. They are offering 255 100 teacher assistant jobs (Education Assistants and General School Assistants) at schools throughout the country as school assistants. They are 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 287000 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 on a 5-months contract, for the following available opportunities:

  • Education Assistant – Curriculum
  • Education Assistant – ICT/e-Cadres
  • Education Assistant – Reading Champions
  • General School Assistant – Child & Youth Care Worker
  • General School Assistant – Handyman (no matric required)
  • General School Assistant – Sports and Enrichment Agent (no matric required)

The Phase IV comes as the country’s youth have reaped the benefits of more than 850 000 job opportunities coupled with trainings that were offered throughout this initiative. It now offers job opportunities to 255 100 youth across the nine provinces in approximately 20 000 Public Ordinary Schools and Schools for Learners with Special Education Needs (LSEN).

  • Youth between the ages of 18 and 34 years residing within a radius of 5km from a school;
  • You must be a South African citizen
  • Youths currently neither in education/ training, nor receiving any form of government grant;
  • Young people with disabilities and women, are eligible and encouraged to apply for this enriching experience.

Note: Youth are requested to note that under the new Case Law, any person working with vulnerable people (learners and disabled people) needs to be vetted. Hence, for Phase IV, this is a requirement for placement.

In addition to the above, you must meet the following educational qualification:

  • To qualify as an Education Assistant, you must have passed matric English, while an NQF Level 4, 6 and 7 qualification certificate, will be an added advantage.
  • However, for placement as a General School Assistant, a matric certificate is not required for Infrastructure support and Sports and Enrichment Agents, although Trade certificates will be an added advantage.
  • To work in the education environment, you must have a good ability to work with people, and within groups, have good communication skills and be a good listener and have interest in academics.

Should you receive notice that you have been selected for shortlisting, you will be required to prepare the following documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Testimonials (former school, local chief, church leader, etc)
  • Police clearance certificates
  • Affidavit/Declaration by applicant stating he/she has no criminal record while awaiting the Police clearance
  • Certified qualifications such as Matric, (where applicable: NQF Level 4 qualification certificate, for Education Assistant applicants with NQF level 6 and 7 an added advantage)
  • Certified copy of identity document/ passport

  1. I have registered on the sayouth.mobi site and now as I am browsing on the site I can’t find the school assistant post so I’m unable to apply please help me.

Well I applied last year and got a call on febuary was called for an interview they said it was for only a month of and I didn’t have a problem with that I got the position n started working on the 1st of March and on the 4th of March I was told that the government can not register those who are taking space for someone who left I was so heart broken I hoped that they’ll call coz I need the job
