Athlone Institute Bursary Application 2025

We are pleased to announce that the application for the 2025 Athlone Institute Bursary is now open.

The Athlone Institute Bursary Project Fund (AIBPF), established in 1998, provides financial assistance to students from the Paarl or Mbekweni area (Western Cape, South Africa) or members of affiliated religious institutions. The bursary supports full-time and part-time students enrolled at accredited tertiary institutions. In 2024, R900,000 was awarded to 81 students. Applications for 2025 are open from 3 February 2025 and close on 28 February 2025.

Athlone Institute Bursary Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all the following requirements:

1. Residency/Religious Affiliation:
   • Permanent resident of Paarl/Mbekweni OR a member of one of the five AT-affiliated churches:
     • St Stephen’s Anglican Church
     • Immanuel United Reformed Church
     • Bethel United Congregational Church
     • Holy Trinity Anglican Church
     • Zorns United Reformed Church
2. Academic:
   • South African citizen.
   • Completed Matric with a valid certificate.
   • Enrolled in an accredited tertiary institution (undergraduate/postgraduate).
   • Strong academic record (senior/postgraduate students must submit full academic transcripts).
3. Financial Need:
   • Proof of financial need (e.g., parent/guardian pay slips or sworn affidavits if unemployed).
4. Community Commitment:
   • Willingness to participate in community service within Paarl/Mbekweni and the mentoring program.

Submit the following certified copies:

1. Mandatory:
   • ID document.
   • Proof of residence (Paarl/Mbekweni or church membership).
   • Proof of registration at a tertiary institution (including fee statement).
   • Matric certificate (first-year students) or full academic record (senior/postgraduate students).
   • Parent/guardian/spouse’s recent pay slips or unemployment affidavits.

Athlone Institute Bursary Application Procedure

1. Prepare Documents:
   • Ensure all documents are scanned and saved. Do not start the application without these.
2. Online Application:
   • Apply via the Athlone Bursary portal from 3 February 2025 (applications suspended until then due to technical issues).

3. Submit:
   • Upload all required documents.
   • Ensure the application is complete; drafts cannot be saved.
4. Deadline:
   • Submit by 28 February 2025. Late applications are not accepted.
