SAAB Bursary Application Form for 2025

We are pleased to inform you that the SAAB Bursary Application Form for 2025 is now out.

The South African Association of Botanists (SAAB) offers scholarships to support Honours and MSc students in Botany and related fields. For 2025, SAAB will award:

• Honours Bursaries: Three awards of R15,000 for one year of study (NQF Level 8/PGDip).
• MSc Bursaries: Up to three awards of R50,000 (R25,000/year, contingent on satisfactory progress).

Both bursaries require applicants to study at a South African institution under a paid-up SAAB member supervisor. Successful candidates receive complimentary SAAB student membership.

Eligibility and Requirements

For Honours Bursary:

• Academic: Undergraduate degree with 70%+ average.
• Enrollment: Registered for Honours/PGDip (NQF 8) in Botany or related fields in 2025.
• Supervisor: Must be a SAAB member in good standing.

For MSc Bursary:

• Academic: BSc Honours degree with 70%+ average.
• Enrollment: First-year full-time MSc in Botany or related fields in 2025.
• Supervisor: Must be a SAAB member in good standing.

General Requirements:

• Citizenship: South African citizen.
• Documents:
  • Academic transcripts (certified).
  • CV (PDF format).
  • Supervisor’s motivation letter (PDF).
  • Research motivation letter (PDF).

Application Procedure

1. Complete the Online Form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdoLeMbFnivh_lwrrkcmeJ0UAJWw1F71yjpPRBUC-uTZPTroA/viewform):
   • Provide personal details (name, ID, email, citizenship, ethnicity, gender).
   • Select bursary type (Honours/MSc).
   • Indicate institution, course, department, supervisor, and final-year marks.
2. Upload Required Documents:
   • CV.
   • Supervisor’s motivation letter.
   • Academic transcripts.
   • Research motivation letter (detailing proposed research interests).
3. Submit Before Deadline:
   • Ensure all documents are in PDF format (max 10 MB each).

Deadlines

• MSc Bursary: 28 February 2025 (application closed).
• Honours Bursary: 31 March 2025.

Key Notes:

• Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
• Awards are competitive; SAAB reserves the right not to grant bursaries if criteria are unmet.
• Successful applicants will be notified by mid-March 2025 (MSc) or mid-April 2025 (Honours)
