Welcome to the 12th Continental Essay Competition coordinated by the ARSO Central Secretariat in close collaboration with National Standards Bureau at the National Level. This Concept Note provides clear details on how to effectively organize and participate in the competition.
The competition is part of the African Organisation for Standardization’s (ARSO) efforts to harmonize African Standards and promote sustainable development. The theme for this year’s competition is “Role of Education about Standardization (EaS) in shaping Education and African Students for the Sustainable Development opportunities and challenges in the 21st Century.”
ARSO Continental Essay Competition Eligibility and Requirements
Eligibility:
- Open to citizens of all African countries, only below the age of 35 years living in Africa and studying in a university/college recognized by the local commission for university education or equivalent body in their countries.
Essay Requirements:
- Length: Essays should be between 1000 and 1200 words.
- Presentation: Essays should be double spaced and presented in Century Gothic, size 12.
- Language: Essays must be submitted in English or French.
- Information on the author: Authors may use up to 50 words to describe themselves, including their names, course and year of study, name, town, and country in which their university is located.
- Contacts: Authors should provide their postal, physical, telephone, and email addresses on the first page of the essay, along with the title of the essay and author information. Also, attach a copy of the Identity Card or Passport and a completely filled registration form.
- Plagiarism Note: AI-generated essays will be checked using the AI Plagiarism Checker Software, and those with a score more than 20% will be disqualified.

Submission Deadline: Essays should be submitted to the National Standards Bodies by the respective deadlines. The Country Reports Submission Deadline for submission of top five winners by NSBs is Friday, 18th April 2025, through the email address arso@arso-oran.org.
