We are pleased to announce that the application for the DSI-NRF Postgraduate Student Funding for the 2024 Academic Year
Just like in 2021, the DSI and NRF have officially opened the application process for the much-awaited DSI-NRF Postgraduate Student Funding for the 2025 academic session. This funding opportunity aims to support and finance candidates keen on pursuing studies in various academic sectors such as Science, Engineering, Technology, Social Sciences, and Humanities. This initiative brings with it the promise of quality education and research advancement in diverse academic spheres.
DSI-NRF Postgraduate Student Scholarship Eligibility
To be deemed eligible for this esteemed scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Academic Requirement: Candidates should have a minimum academic score of 65%.
- Age Limitation: For honours, master’s and doctoral studies, the age restrictions are 28, 30, and 32 years respectively, as of the application year, irrespective of the registration year.
- Citizenship and Residency: The Full Cost of Study (FCS) funding is exclusively for South African citizens and Permanent Residents. This covers individuals with financial constraints (those with a combined family income ≤ R350,000 p.a.), those living with a disability, or outstanding academic performers.
- Funding Variability: A Partial Cost of Study (PCS) is available to 5% of international students and South African citizens and Permanent Residents who don’t qualify for FCS but fulfill other NRF scholarship funding prerequisites.
Candidates currently in their second or third year, needing continued funding, should not submit a fresh application. Instead, they are mandated to provide a Progress Report.
DSI-NRF Postgraduate Student Scholarship Application Procedure
Applicants are to strictly follow the steps below:
- Digital Application: Candidates must apply exclusively through the NRF Connect System. They can access the application form via NRF Connect System. Manual or handwritten applications are not entertained.
- Document Reference: It’s imperative that candidates reference the Application and Funding Guide and Framework documents during each stage of the online application. This ensures accuracy and completeness.
