The Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) is offering a unique opportunity for students interested in the local government sector. Through the Discretionary Grants Bursary 1^st Funding Window, LGSETA aims to support the aspirations of its strategic plan and annual performance targets. The bursary is tailored for South African students, including those with permanent residence status, who have a keen interest in the local government domain.
LGSETA BURSARY ELIGIBILITY
To ensure a seamless application process and a higher chance of approval, it’s paramount to understand the eligibility criteria:
- Nationality and Residency: Open for South African students as well as those with permanent residence status.
- Educational Institutions: The bursary caters to university, University of Technology, TVET Colleges (NATED programmes) students, and Grade 12 learners who have secured acceptance or provisional acceptance at recognised institutions of higher education.
- Relevance of Study: Only those pursuing a course or qualification that aligns with the local government sector can apply.
- Sector Priority: A preference will be given to students undertaking studies that match the sector priority occupations and interventions (SPOI) list. For detailed qualifications, one can consult the Annexure A List of Qualifications on the LGSETA website.
- Study Mode: Only full-time students will be considered for this bursary.
- Academic Year: The application pertains to the 2024 academic year’s application or registration.
LGSETA BURSARY APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Embarking on the application journey requires a systematic approach. Follow the steps detailed below for a smooth process:
- Official Portal: Begin your application journey at the LGSETA website.
- Registration: Click on ‘register’. For step-by-step guidance, refer to the Annexure B User Manual.
- Document Submission: Applicants need to furnish the following certified documents:
- Identification proof
- The highest qualification achieved
- Affidavit as proof of unemployment
- Acceptance or registration confirmation from the chosen institution of study
- Proof of residence
- Enrollment form, which is system-generated
- All supporting documents should be recent (not older than 6 months).
- Mode of Submission: Bursary applications should exclusively be submitted via the LGSETA website, as outlined above. Avoid email or hand delivery methods.
- Qualifications List: To understand which qualifications receive funding, check the Annexure A document available on the website.
APPLICATION DATE
It’s crucial to note the following dates to avoid missing out on this golden opportunity:
- Closing Date: The application window concludes on November 8, 2023, at 23:59 (midnight). Timeliness is essential, as there’s no provision for an extension. Applications submitted after this deadline or those found incomplete will be rejected.
Important Notices
- Bursary approvals fall under the discretion of the LGSETA Accounting Authority.
- Fund allocation is contingent upon fund availability and applicants fulfilling all requisite criteria.
- LGSETA holds the prerogative to revoke the funding window, partially or entirely.
