“Empowering Women in Science: Learn About the L’Oréal-UNESCO South Africa National Young Talents Programme and How to Apply Today”

The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science South Africa National Young Talents Programme has launched its fifth edition [3], aiming to promote and encourage young African women’s participation in science. The programme identifies and rewards talented young female scientists in various fields, including Formal sciences, Life sciences, Environmental sciences, Physical sciences, Engineering, and Technological sciences.

L’OREAL-UNESCO SOUTH AFRICA NATIONAL YOUNG TALENTS PROGRAMME ELIGIBILITY

For Doctoral Students:

  1. South African nationality
  2. Enrollment in a South African university and conducting research in a laboratory in one of the nine provinces (refer to Annexure 1 for the list of provinces)
  3. A minimum requirement of being in the 2nd year of the thesis
  4. Conducting research in one of the scientific fields listed in the rules document

For Postdoctorates:

  1. South African nationality
  2. Enrollment in a post-doctorate in a research laboratory or an institution in one of the nine provinces (refer to Annexure 1 for the list of provinces)
  3. Having obtained a doctorate in one of the scientific fields listed in the rules document
  4. Conducting research in one of the scientific fields listed in the rules document
  5. Having started the post-doctorate before the opening date of the call for applications

Application Procedure

Selection Criteria:

  1. Scientific excellence of the research project
  2. Quality of the application
  3. Ability to communicate and promote science

Application Dates: The countdown to the closing of applications is May 20th, 2023.

Awards: The program offers three research grants for doctoral students and three research grants for postdoctoral candidates. Additionally, recipients will receive training in Leadership, Management, Negotiation, and Communication. The amount per endowment is R80,000 for doctorates and R160,000 for post-doctorates.
