Seeking a path to launch your career? The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) is offering a unique opportunity for young graduates under the Presidential Youth Employment Stimulus (PYES) programme. This initiative intends to provide employment avenues for graduates and a chance to enhance their employability skills in various professional domains.

DHET PYES YOUNG GRADUATES INTERNSHIP ELIGIBILITY

To ensure the right fit for this promising opportunity, applicants must adhere to the following criteria:

  • Be a graduate aged between 18 and 35.
  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Not engaged in full-time studies; those enrolled in after-hour classes can apply.
  • I have not previously participated in any learnership or internship programmes.
  • Willingness to commit to a learnership or internship agreement with SMU for a span of six months.
  • Notably, candidates must possess the relevant academic qualifications corresponding to the internship positions specified, ranging from diplomas to PhDs in various disciplines.

Inherent Competencies Expected:

  • Proficiency in computer applications, particularly MS Office Suite
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Exemplary time management
  • Ability to handle confidential matters discreetly.
  • Resilience under stress.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

To position yourself as a prospective candidate:

  1. Prepare the following documentation:
    • A detailed CV and accompanying cover letter
    • Two testimonials.
    • Recent (not older than 6 months) certified copies of academic records or confirmation of completion
    • Recent certified copies of qualifications For foreign qualifications, ensure you provide the SAQA accreditation.
    • A recent certified copy of your identity document
    • Proof of registration with any relevant professional body (if applicable)
    • A copy of your driver’s licence, if you possess one.
  2. Forward your application, quoting the reference number 1/2023/PYES/Intern, to Ms. MM Makgati at the Human Resources Department via:

APPLICATION DATES

Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend of R5,000 for their contributions.

Note: It’s essential to get any foreign qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA) prior to application.
