For a successful application, adhere to stipulated guidelines, pay the necessary fees, and submit applications within the set deadlines.
UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN, UCT POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Educational Requirements:
- Applicants must have completed undergraduate studies at recognised institutions.
Specific Requirements:
The admission requirements for postgraduate study vary from one programme to another. You are advised to consult the faculty directly in order to find out what is required for the course or degree that you want to take.

UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN, UCT POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION GUIDELINES AND FORMS
- Online Application: Applications are submitted online via UCT’s application portal.
- Mid-Year 2024 Transcript: For applicants who are still completing their qualifications in 2024, a mid-year transcript for 2024 must be submitted by October 31, 2024.
- Final 2024 Transcript: If the final transcript for 2024 isn’t available by October, it must be submitted by December 31, 2024.
- Postgraduate Funding Application: If you are applying for funding, you should complete the Postgraduate Funding Application. This is particularly important for both South African and international postgraduate students who are seeking scholarships and bursaries.
- Application for Student Housing: If you require residential accommodation, ensure to apply by July 31.
- Proof of Payment: Once you have received an acknowledgment of your application, you need to pay the application fee and submit proof of this payment. The proof of payment should bear your applicant number.
- Resume and Cover Letter: For some programmes, you may need to submit a resume and a cover letter that showcase your enthusiasm and dedication towards the selected field of study, along with any relevant work samples.
- Additional Documents for Specific Programmes: Depending on the specific postgraduate programme you are applying for, there may be additional requirements and documents to submit. Always refer to the specific program’s application guideline for detailed information.
APPLICATION FEE
- UCT and GSB graduates are exempt, except when applying to GSB.
- For South African and SADC region postgraduates: R100.
- For those outside the SADC region: R300.
- GSB applicants from Africa: R2 070.
- GSB International applicants: US$300.
- Payment methods include direct deposit, EFT, or online credit card payment. Refer to UCT’s official payment guidelines for detailed information.
APPLICATION DATES
General Deadlines:
- Applications for coursework master’s degrees, honours degrees, or PG diplomas close on October 31, 2024.
- For specific programs, refer to detailed deadlines as outlined by individual faculties.
Faculty-Specific Deadlines:
- Check relevant faculty websites for specific closing dates and requirements.
International Applicants:
- Deadlines may differ. Generally, international applicants should apply by October 31, 2024.
