We are pleased to announce that the application for the 2024 Master’s Scholarships at the Yenching Academy, Peking University in China is now open.

Peking University’s prestigious Yenching Academy presents a unique opportunity for global students and future leaders. The academy introduces the Yenching Scholarship, an all-encompassing 1-year Masters of China Studies programme (conducted in English). This initiative is sculpted to prepare the next-generation leaders to rise to the challenges of the 21st century’s evolving international landscape.

Yenching Academy Master’s Scholarships Eligibility

  • Age and Military Service: Applicants should not be older than 25 years as of August 31, 2024. For countries mandating military service, the age threshold is 27 years.
  • Academic Excellence: Prospective scholars should showcase exceptional academic performance. Both candidates with outstanding honours and those possessing a master’s degree can apply.
  • Fields of Study: The study fields encompass a vast range of humanities and social sciences pertaining to China.
  • Additional Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in any field, acquired no later than August 31 of the year they wish to enrol in.
    • demonstrated interest in the interdisciplinary study of China.
    • Track records of extracurricular achievements, leadership roles, and community engagement.
    • Proficiency in English

Yenching Academy Master’s Scholarships Application Procedure

Aspiring candidates must direct their applications to the Office for Postgraduate Studies at pgstudies@uct.ac.za with the following:

  • Completed application form.
  • Personal statement (no more than 750 words)
  • Statement of Research Interest (maximum 1500 words): Outlining research questions, study background, literature summary, and study design are indicative of the candidate’s academic prowess.
  • Curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages) highlighting academic milestones, leadership roles, and community involvements
  • Official academic transcripts for both current and prior degrees
  • Two academic recommendation letters penned by full professors or associate professors Ensure these are directly mailed to pgstudies@uct.ac.za by or before the internal closing date.

Note: All applications should be routed through UCT. Only when UCT endorses select students will the application process proceed directly with the Yenching Academy.

Selection The University of Cape Town (UCT), a distinguished partner of Peking University, will be the primary contact for applicants. UCT will meticulously screen applications and put forth select candidates for further evaluation by the Yenching Academy Admissions Committee, typically through a Skype interview.
