SARB First Year Bursary Eligibility
To be considered for this life-changing opportunity, there are certain requirements applicants must meet:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be less than 30 years old.
- Have achieved an average pass mark of 70% in your current year of study.
- Be in a financially needy situation (unable to afford university without a bursary).
As part of the application process, students must provide a certified copy of either their June matric results (for students currently in matric) or their final matric results (for those who have completed matric). Additionally, a 250-word essay to motivate the application is needed, along with proof of acceptance at a recognized tertiary institution, and a certified copy of the South African ID.

- Complete the form in full. Make sure to read the instructions thoroughly before starting. This includes sections on applicant’s information, study details, parent/guardian’s details, and a 250-word essay.
- Submit the completed application by one of the following methods:

Application Dates
The key date to remember for this bursary application is the 30th of September, 2023, which is the deadline for the submission of applications. Any applications received after this date will not be considered. Applicants should remember to prepare their documents ahead of this deadline.
In case your application was unsuccessful, the SARB notifies students within one month after the closing date. If you do not hear from the SARB within this period, it can be assumed that your application did not pass the selection process.
