We are pleased and excited to announce to you that the University of the Western Cape, UWC Online Application for the 2024/2025 academic year as the application for 2023/2024, is closed. Therefore, all interested and qualified applicants should take note. We are not just making this announcement known but also providing various steps on how to apply online for the UWC admission.
Gather all the necessary documents and get ready to follow the steps on our website to a successful UWC online application. We will try as much as possible to make your application smooth and seamless. But before we proceed, remember this application is open to all prospective undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and certificate students. The only thing you need right now to apply for admission to the prestigious University of the Western Cape is for you to be eligible and ready.
The Management of the University of the Western Cape, UWC are no stranger to technology as they have made this application exclusively online unlike the rigorous task of going through the paper-based application (only when necessary). This is why they opened an application portal for all high school leavers and those trying to further their studies either through part- time or full time.

STEPS ON HOW TO APPLY ONLINE FOR UWC ADMISSION
To use the UWC online application feature, you must have a working internet device, a valid email address which is not shared with another UWC applicant, your South African identity number, or, if you are an international applicant, and your passport number. Kindly follow the easy steps below to apply online for UWC (University of the Western Cape Online Application) admission:
STEP 1 – Apply Online
- Please apply online via the UWC Application Portal if you are enrolling for Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Study Abroad or Graduate School of Business Program.
- Kindly click on ‘New Application’ and continue.
- You will then be required to read and consent to UWC’s privacy notice before you can continue.
- On the next page, there are up to 10 sections to complete depending on the options you select. Kindly fill the required details to continue.
- Kindly complete the Personal Information section and click ‘Submit‘ to continue.
- Select the following when completing your Application Type:
- Study Type;
- Year of Admission;
- Semester;
- Faculty;
- Programme;
- Department;
- Then, click on ‘Submit‘ to continue.
- On the next page, Complete the Applicant Contact Details section and submit to continue.
- Complete the Next of Kin Details section
- Ensure that you list all your current academic qualifications to date
- Complete the Financial Information section
- If you have any bursaries you’ve applied for or if you’ve been awarded a bursary, highlight the details here
- Complete the Alumni, Staff and Marketing section. If the information does not apply to you. Proceed to submit your application
Note:

STEP 2 – Acknowledgement of Application
- After completion of the online application form, you will receive a letter via email from the University acknowledging receipt of your application
- The acknowledgement letter will contain your APPLICANT NUMBER
- This applicant number is to be used in all communication with the University
- You will also receive a brochure indicating the SUPPORTING documents that you will need to submit to the University by the application closing dates for your application to be considered complete
Changed your mind about your choice of study?
- Do not submit a new application
- Check with the Contact Centre (+27 21 959 3900/01 or admissions@uwc.ac.za) if you may change your programme choice
- Should your contact details change please contact the UWC Contact Centre (+27 21 959 3900/01 or admissions@uwc.ac.za) and update your details
STEP 3 – Upload Supporting Documents
- To upload supporting documents, go to https://studentdocumentupload.uwc.ac.za/ complete the form and upload required documents
- Current Matriculants, do not need to upload any supporting documentation
- Already Matriculated: Upload your matric certificate/foreign school leaving certificate.
- Attending Another Tertiary Institution: Upload a certified copy of your academic record and certificate of good conduct, stamped by the institution’s registrar.
- Please note that you must use your Application Number to login in order to upload required application documents. Only log in with your Student Number if you are a current student who needs to upload a copy of your ID document.
STEP 4 – Acceptance of Offer
If your application status indicates OFFER PENDING and/or you receive an email confirming an offer has been made, you will need to ACCEPT the offer within 3 days from the date of the letter was issued and your status updated on the portal:
- Go to UWC Application Portal and click on the STUDY OFFER button.
- Enter your SA ID or Passport Number and your UWC Application Number, then click submit.
- You will then be able to ACCEPT or DECLINE the offer.
Once your selection is confirmed you will receive a confirmation email with further information related to registration. Offers are not transferable.

LIST OF REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR UWC ONLINE APPLICATION
Post-Matric Learners
If you have written the NSC examination already, you need to submit the following:
- Certified copy of your NSC certificate or Senior Certificate
- Certified copy of your identification document
- Proof of any studies with academic records, if applicable, you may have completed
- If applicable, proof that you are currently improving your NSC results
- In an affidavit a brief description of activities post-matric/NSC
Applicants who are re-writing Grade 12 subjects, applications will be processed on the current grade 12 results. If Grade 12 has been written more than once then your combined results must be submitted with your application.
Transfer Students
If you are applying from another institution of higher learning you need to submit certifies copies of the following:
- NSC Certificate or Senior Certificate
- Identification document
- Certificate of good conduct from your institution
- Official Academic Transcript
- Module content / Yearbook descriptor from your institution for all modules completed
- Degree certificate (if applicable)
Students applying for readmission to UWC
If you have studied at UWC previously and have taken a break in study, you need to provide a letter of motivation to be considered for readmission to your respective faculty.
International Students
- You need to submit your final school results to Universities South Africa (USAf) for an evaluation.
- Application for Exemption is to be done with Universities South Africa (USAf) formerly Higher Education South Africa (HESA)
- We, unfortunately, will not be able to respond to your application until you submit a confirmation letter issued by USAF stating that you qualify to study at a South African University.
- Certified copy of your passport.
Post Graduate students
- Certified copy of identification document
- Certified copy of Passport (International Applicants only)
- Official Academic Transcripts/record of results (All applicants)
- Certified copies of degree certificates (All applicants)
- SAQA Evaluation Certificate (International Applicants only)
- Short Curriculum Vitae (CV) (All applicants)
- One page letter of motivation (All applicants)
- Short research intention (Master and Doctoral applicants only)
