We are pleased to announce that the application for the 2024 Western Cape Government Health Bursaries in Health Science Fields is now open.
The Western Cape Government: Health understands the pivotal role human capital plays within any organization. In response to this, the People Development Directorate has devised a strategic initiative aimed at nurturing a new generation of highly talented professionals who can elevate the organization to new levels of excellence. This initiative is embodied in a bursary program that intends to assist in the identification, recruitment, development, and retention of these future stalwarts of the health sector.
Benefits of the Bursary Program
The bursary program offered by Western Cape Government: Health aims to address the shortage of skills in key areas of the health sector. Successful applicants receive financial assistance for full-time studies in their chosen health science field. The assistance provided not only covers tuition but also presents an opportunity for successful graduates to give back to the community by working in the Western Cape Department of Health after their studies. Furthermore, the program continually adapts to the dynamic needs of the health sector, potentially adding or removing fields of study based on the department’s service delivery requirements.
Eligibility
To qualify for one of the Western Cape Government: Health bursaries, the following criteria must be met:
- Be a South African citizen residing in the Western Cape
- Be accepted at the relevant accredited Higher Education Institution (HEI)
Furthermore, recipients of the bursary are expected to provide the Department with satisfactory proof of registration at an accredited academic institution at the start of each financial year. All annual or supplementary examination results must be submitted to the Department within 30 days of receiving such results. The bursaries are granted on a work-back principle, which means graduates are expected to work within the Western Cape Department of Health for each year they received the bursary.
Application Procedure
To apply for the Western Cape Government: Health bursaries, follow these steps:
- Apply at an accredited HEI for your chosen health science field.
- Collect a bursary application form at the HEI financial aid office or apply online at www.westerncape.gov.za/healthbursary.
- Complete the application form.
- Ensure all necessary documents are attached to the application form or uploaded on the system. These include:
- South African Identity book or card
- Proof of Residence
- Guardian Income
- Previous Qualification
- Proof of Disability (if applicable)
- Hand-deliver the completed application form with supporting documents back to the financial aid office.
Application Dates
The application process for the bursary program commenced on the 1st of June 2023 and will close on the 29th of September 2023.
