Agricultural Career Opportunities with APFYD Matric Internship!

Unemployed youth residing in specific rural areas within the Western Cape have a golden opportunity to acquire valuable experience in the agricultural sector, thanks to the Agricultural Partnership for Youth Development Matric Internship Programme (APFYD). The initiative is championed by the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, aiming to grant exposure and practical skills to thirty participants who will benefit from an enriched understanding of agriculture. This endeavor seeks individuals from particular areas within the region, striving to facilitate their entry into the workforce with enhanced prospects for long-term employment in agriculture.

APFYD MATRIC INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME ELIGIBILITY

Specific Requirements:

  • Applicants must be unemployed, aged between 18 and 24, and South African citizens.
  • Participants should have successfully completed their National Senior Certificate (NSC) in the Western Cape in subjects including mathematics and science.
  • This opportunity is open to individuals entering a governmental internship or youth development programme for the first time.
  • Preference is given to children of agricultural workers, with individuals from the listed rural areas having an added advantage.
  • The programme encourages applications from females and persons with disabilities.

Geographic Eligibility:

  • Residency in the following areas: Grabouw, Hermanus, Chatsworth, Graafwater, Uniondale, The Crags, Murraysburg, Klaarstroom, Touws River, and Tankwa Karoo.

Appointment Details:

  • Successful candidates will be engaged on a fixed-term contract lasting 12 months.
  • Placements will occur on farms and with other agricultural entities within the above-stated regions.
  • Participants will receive an annual stipend amounting to R60,037.92.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Obtain the application form. Secure the new Z83 application form from any government department.
  2. Prepare supporting documents: Gather and prepare a copy of your qualification, a certified copy of your South African ID (bar-coded or new ID card), and your academic results certified by the issuing institution.
  3. Submission: Send the completed internship application forms along with certified copies of your ID, Grade 12 certificate, and additional supporting documents to the address provided below.

Submission Address:

  • Applications should be directed to Mr. P. Rockman at the Directorate: Operational Support Services, Western Cape Department of Agriculture. Applications can be emailed to EDI@westerncape.gov.za or posted to Private Bag X 1, Elsenburg, 7607.

APPLICATION DATES

  • Deadline: All applications must be submitted by October 6, 2023.

Following the deadline, shortlisted candidates will receive correspondence from the department. If you don’t receive any communication within three months post the application closing date, consider your application unsuccessful.
