We are pleased to announce that the application for the 2023 Beca Colombia Scholarship Programme: An Opportunity for Foreign Students is now open.
The Government of Colombia, in collaboration with the Colombian Institute of Education Credit and Technical Studies Abroad (ICETEX), is offering the Beca Colombia Scholarship Programme for Foreign Students. This prestigious initiative is targeted towards international students interested in pursuing postgraduate studies in Colombian higher education institutions. The scholarship offers an array of postgraduate programs in both public and private Colombian institutions, welcoming applications until the 28th of June 2023.
Beca Colombia Scholarship Programme is a government-funded initiative that aims to promote intellectual exchange and build academic networks by attracting international students. This program provides a golden opportunity for South African students to embark on postgraduate studies in Colombia from the second semester of 2023.
Benefits of the Beca Colombia Scholarship
The Beca Colombia Scholarship covers:
- Tuition fees at Colombian higher education institutions
- Health insurance in Colombia
- Courtesy visa fees
- A monthly stipend
- Installation costs (500,000 pesos equivalent to R2029)
- An incidental grant
- A stipend for books and materials (500,000 pesos equivalent to R2029)
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Beca Colombia Scholarship Programme, applicants must:
- Be a foreign citizen
- Not hold Colombian nationality or have resided in Colombia in the last six months prior to applying for the scholarship
- Provide a Certificate of Migratory Movements no older than 30 days at the time of application
- Not have a marital or de facto relationship in Colombia
- Not have started postgraduate studies in Colombia
- Not have been a beneficiary of ICETEX through the Beca Colombia programme
- Be no older than 50 years
- Have an average of 4.0 out of 5.0 in undergraduate studies
- Hold a professional, undergraduate, or graduate degree in any field of study
- Have admission to between one to three postgraduate programs listed in the Academic Offer Catalog 2022-2. If applying for Spanish courses, the admission from the Institution offering the Spanish course will be suspended
Please note that applicants must make provision for admission costs established by the Colombian higher education institutions to which they wish to apply. All other costs not covered by the scholarship must also be provided by the applicant.
Application Process
All applications should be submitted on the ICETEX platform, accessible via their website.
In addition to the application, the following documents must be attached:
- A preadmission or final admission letter from the university
- An Academic Recommendation Letter issued by an academic from the university where undergraduate studies were completed, dated 2022
- A Certificate of Migratory Movements of the last year, no older than 30 days at the time of application
- Undergraduate or graduate transcripts
- An essay
- A valid passport copy
- Copies of university degrees or diplomas
- A Resume or CV
- A Health Certificate, not older than thirty days at the time of application
- A Professional Experience Certificate
Scholarship holders attending academic programs longer than 12 months must request renewal from ICETEX each year for the continuity of their studies.
