For all budding photographers captivated by the transformative power of youth skills, UNESCO-UNEVOC presents the Skills in Action Photo Competition 2023. This competition represents a chance to spotlight the instrumental role of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in molding the younger generation. So, if you believe your photos can tell a tale of youth skilling for the future, this competition awaits your participation.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for participation are straightforward:

  • Participants must be 18 years or older.
  • Participants should have ownership or hold the copyright of the photo(s) they submit.

Photo Guidelines

Theme: The competition seeks photographs that demonstrate the innovative dimensions of TVET. The photos should encapsulate how TVET equips individuals aged 15–29 with skills pivotal for future challenges. The spotlight for this year revolves around:

  • TVET for a sustainable future: Images reflecting green jobs and skills.
  • Skills for a digitalized world: Photos emphasizing the digital transformation of training and occupations.
  • Inclusive TVET: Images underlining the significance of universal access to top-notch TVET irrespective of gender, ethnicity, nationality, or disability.

Do’s

  • Define your thematic area(s) to align with the competition’s theme.
  • Utilize cameras that can produce high-resolution photos – at least 3000 pixels on the longer side, set at 300 DPI/PPI. Mobile photos are accepted based on their quality.
  • Get consent from any individual(s) featured in the image.
  • You may make minimal edits to the photo, but these should be declared in the submission form.

Don’ts

  • Refrain from submitting collaged images.
  • Avoid adding watermarks, signatures, or other overlays.
  • Ensure that all images relate to one of the thematic areas provided.

Application Procedure

Steps to Submit Your Entry:

  1. Assign a title and scribe a brief description (max 75 words) for every image, indicating its context, location, and date captured.
  2. Format your image: Lastname_Firstname_title.jpeg (e.g., Smith_John_Digital-Futures.jpeg/.tiff)
  3. Complete the submission form, available here, and rename it: Lastname_Firstname_SAPC23.docx
  4. Peruse and concur with the Terms and Conditions in the submission form.
  5. Transmit the finished form and original image files to unevoc.skills(at)unesco.org. For multiple entries too large for email, utilize cloud storage and provide a direct download link.

Selection Process:

UNESCO-UNEVOC will sift through entries, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions. Entries are gauged on:

  • Theme adherence
  • Concept originality
  • Creativity
  • Message conveyance innovatively

Shortlisted participants will receive an email notification. All submissions become available under the Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 IGO (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 IGO) license.

Rewards for Excellence:

  • 1st Prize: 750 USD
  • 2nd Prize: 500 USD
  • 3rd Prize: 350 USD

Winners and finalists will be granted a certificate, and their submissions will grace UNESCO’s digital platforms. Moreover, all entries may be employed in upcoming UNESCO campaigns.
