This article contains an update on the issuance of the TVET Certificates.
The result of not issuing certificates to TVET graduates has left a lot of questions for the Department of Higher Education to answer and thereby providing a solution to the ever rising backlog.
According to a report by the South African Social Security Agency, out of the 11.4 million applications received, approximately 5% of the total applications were unemployed graduates. This can only be caused by the non-issuance of certificates which has frustrated unemployed TVET graduates from taking advantage of these employment opportunities because of not having anything to prove that they are are graduates in the first place.
In response to this rising situation, recently, the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr. Blade Nzimande on his twitter handle released a statement on this, that he’s happy to indicate that about 99.94% of TVET college certificates for the previous certification backlog have been released to colleges for qualifying students after results were processed.
In addition to his satement, he went further to explain that certificates for students are released to TVET colleges within ninety (90) days after the release of results, for those students who meet certification requirements.
Students who have written examinations over multiple examination periods to qualify for certification, are expected to apply for the combination of their results at the last examination centre where they wrote their examination.
The centre will in return submit the application to DHET for further processing. According to the department, students may also submit their enquiries on the eGOV (eservices) portal.
This approach is the best solution that the department has successfully taken in reducing the ever rising backlog of non-issued TVET certificates.
