STELLENBOSCH UNIVERSITY ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
Basic admission requirements for university study:- A National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Independent Examinations Board (IEB) school-leaving certificate as certified by Umalusi with admission to bachelor’s degree studies.
- A university exemption certificate issued by the South African Matriculation Board to students with other school qualifications.
- The minimum academic requirement for a bachelor’s degree is:
- 30% for a South African Language of Learning and Teaching (English or Afrikaans) and
- An achievement rating of 4 (50%–59%) in four 20-credit subjects
- Only School of Tomorrow applicants have to write the National Benchmark Tests (NBTs) if applying for a programme in AgriSciences.
- An average of at least 60% in the NSC, IEB or relevant final school examination.
- Afrikaans or English (Home Language or First Additional Language) 4 (50%)
- Mathematics 5 (60%)
- Physical Sciences (Physics and Chemistry) 4 (50%)Take note:
- All programmes are selection programmes and applications will be considered according to the rules and procedures as set out in the Selection guidelines and admission policy for undergraduate programmes for the Faculty of AgriSciences. For full detail, visit:
National Benschmark Test (NBT)
For university admission, a prospective student is required to be in possession of a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or school-leaving certificate from the Independent Examination Board (IEB) as certified by Umalusi, with admission to bachelor’s degree studies (which requires a performance level of at least 4 (50–59%) in each of four designated university admission subjects), or an exemption certificate issued by the South African Matriculation Board to students with other school qualifications
In addition to the above, admission to programmes leading to BScAgric*, BScFor*, BScConsEcol, BSc Food Sc and BAgricAdmin requires at least:
- An average performance level of 60% in the NSC or the IEB’s school-leaving certificate (excluding Life Orientation) or other school qualification;
- Afrikaans or English (Home Language or First Additional Language) 4 (50%);
- Mathematics 5 (60%);
- Physical Sciences (Physics and Chemistry) 4 (50%)
- An average performance level of 60% in the NSC or the IEB’s school-leaving certificate (excluding Life Orientation) or other school qualification;
- Afrikaans or English (Home Language or First Additional Language) 4 (50%)
- Mathematics 6 (70%)
- Physical Sciences (Physics and Chemistry) 4 (50%)
- Afrikaans or English (Home Language or First Additional Language) 4 (50%);
- Mathematics 4 (50%) or Mathematical Literacy 5 (60%);
- Physical Sciences (Physics and Chemistry) 4 (50%); OR
- Life Sciences 4 (50%); OR
- Agricultural Sciences 4 (50%).
UNIVERSITEIT STELLENBOSCH, SUN POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
Postgraduate Diplomas Requirements- An appropriate Bachelor’s degree OR
- Admission to the status of that degree OR
- Attained a level of competence
- Some schools and colleges may accept an Advanced Diploma for entry into a Postgraduate Diploma if HEQF (Higher Education Qualification Framework) requirements are met.
- A minimum of at least two consecutive semesters. Except with permission of Senate, all modules shall be completed at the University.
- The curriculum will contain advanced reflection, practice and research methods in the area of specialisation and may include a sustained research project in accordance with College rules approved by Senate.
- An appropriate Bachelor’s degree OR
- Admission to the status of that degree OR
- Attained a level of competence
- A minimum of at least two consecutive semesters. Except with permission of Senate, all modules shall be completed at the University.
- A relevant prerequisite degree OR
- Admission to the status of that degree OR
- Attained a level of competence
- A minimum of two consecutive semesters (full-time) or 4 consecutive semesters (part-time) before the degree may be conferred.
- With permission and in terms of College regulations, periods of attendance at graduate level at another institution or in another College may be accepted. (Consult with relevant school.).
- A minimum of two consecutive semesters (full-time) or 4 consecutive semesters (part-time) before the degree may be conferred.
- Candidates shall be required to pursue an appropriate programme of research on a subject falling within the scope of the studies presented at the University. Students must also adhere to possible other conditions prescribed by colleges and schools.
Doctor of philosophy or supervised Doctor degrees by research
Requirements- A relevant prerequisite degree OR
- Admission to the status of that degree
- A minimum of four consecutive semesters (full-time) or eight consecutive semesters (part-time) before the degree may be conferred.
- Students will be required to pursue an approved programme of research on a subject falling within the scope of studies at the University. Such a programme shall make a distinct contribution to the knowledge or understanding of the subject and afford evidence of originality shown either by the discovery of new facts or by the exercise of independent critical power. Students must also adhere to other possible conditions prescribed by colleges and schools.
