The application for the Valspar South Africa Bursary for the year 2024 is now open to all South African students in South Africa.
Valspar South Africa is a coatings manufacturer based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, specialising in the manufacture of coatings for the metal packaging market (beverage cans, food cans, etc.), the automotive refinish market (body shops), mirror coatings (especially solar mirrors) and the general industrial market (including coatings for heavy-duty machinery, pipe coatings and architectural
coatings)
Valspar South Africa is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Sherwin-Williams Company. Founded in 1866 in the United States, The Sherwin-Williams Company is a global leader in the manufacture, development, distribution, and sale of paints, coatings, and related products to professional, industrial, commercial, and retail customers.
ABOUT THE BURSARY
Bursaries will be awarded to a set number of students enrolled in the following fields of study at the Mangosuthu University of Technology:
- Chemistry
- Chemical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
The bursary will cover for the 2025 academic year 100% of tuition fees, registration fees, exam fees, accommodation costs, textbooks, and a set monthly allowance towards meals and transport. Students may be required to perform vacation work during the course of their studies and will be considered for project work depending on the needs of the corporation.
VALSPAR SOUTH AFRICA BURSARY ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:
- From a previously disadvantageous background or groups defined by BBBEE criteria
- High academic achievement with an overall aggregate of 70% for Matric (first-year students) or tertiary studies (second- and third-year students)
- Must be registered with a Tertiary Institution and have passed all subjects and modules from the previous year or semester (second, third and fourth year students)
- Studying full-time in one of the aforementioned fields of study
- Do not have any other bursary funding, e.g. NSFAS
HOW TO APPLY FOR VALSPAR SOUTH AFRICA BURSARY
Students who fulfil the above minimum criteria can complete an application form and submit via email: nadene.manuel@sherwin.com
Please include the following documents in your application pack:
- A covering letter (we have drafted a Valspar Bursary Letter Example) will be sent to students along with the application form. Students can edit this letter or feel free to write their own cover letter.
- ID document (certified copy)
- First-year students: latest Matric results; Matric certificate (certified copy) if available
- Second, Third or Fourth Year Students: Matric certificate (certified copy) AND full academic Record/Transcript (on tertiary institution letterhead)
- Proof of Registration at the Tertiary Institution
- Curriculum Vitae (short version)
- Applicable invoices and / or proof of payment for fees already paid for the 2024 Academic year only
NEXT STEPS
Valspar will review all applications submitted by the closing date. Shortlisted candidates will be notified by March 19, 2024, of an interview date.
Following the interviews, the successful bursary recipients will be notified by March 30, 2024.
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS
- The closing date for the application is March 12, 2024.
