The application for the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) Bursary for the academic year 2024-2025 is now open by the Department of Water and Sanitation for all South Africans in South Africa.
The Department of Water and Sanitation hereby invites all outstanding students to apply for the Department of Water and Sanitation Bursary. It is meant for students that intend to or are currently studying towards degree and diploma programmes that are aligned to the following listed below:

DEPARTMENT OF WATER AND SANITATION (DWS) BURSARY APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY
Currently, bursaries for full-time pre- and post-graduate studies are granted on an annual basis to learners at the following South African universities:

Bursaries will be allocated on the basis of a balanced consideration of the following factors:
- Academic performance
- Race and gender
- Financial need
- The need for DWS in reference to the specific qualifications
Successful applicants to the bursary scheme receive the following support:
- Full tertiary registration and tuition costs
- Residence and meal fees
- Book allowance
- An annual personal allowance
Obligations
- DWS will require bursars who obtain their qualifications to join Water Learning Academy on a fixed-term contract for a maximum of three (3) years.
HOW TO APPLY FOR DEPARTMENT OF WATER AND SANITATION (DWS) BURSARY
How to apply
- Submit all application forms by email to bursaries@dws.gov.za.
- Applicants that do not receive written communication within 3 months after the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful.
- For 2022, the Department of Water and Sanitation will consider applications only for the 1st and 2nd years of study for the following qualifications:
- BSc/BEng in Civil; Mechanical and Electrical
- BSc (Hons) in Civil; Mechanical and Electrical
- BSc in Hydrology, Geohydrology, Environmental Management, Project Management, Environmental Sciences, and Water Sciences
- BSc (Hons) in Hydrology, Geohydrology, Environmental Management, Project Management,
Environmental Sciences, Environmental and Water Sciences - National Diploma/BEng Tech in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering; Electrical Engineering
(Heavy Current); National Diploma in Water Care, Environmental Management, and Biochemistry.
- The bursary awards target previously disadvantaged and impoverished people from poverty-stricken and rural communities. Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
DOCUMENTATIONS
- Please attach Grade 12 certificate
- If you have not yet completed Grade 12, attach latest results (i.e. Grade 11 and/or first semester Grade 12 results)
- If you are currently studying at a university, please attach a complete official academic record stating year marks symbols, and percentages in respect of all examinations till date
- Attach copy of ID
- First-time or new students: Attach copy of proof of application, provisional acceptance letter, or firm offer from university
